11x17 or 12x18 comic boards
which one do you prefer and why?
Also, is there anyone who has a template for margins, (the blue markings and stuff) standard in this industry, as I want to print it. We don't have any store here in our place that sells comic boards. Thank you very much, DWers.

I have a template and it doesn't matter the size of the paper only the proportions and detailing in the finished artwork. Use the link to download the file as the image may be degraded.

sorry, that's the only place I can store large files. Figures Time Warner makes crappy crap. I have other templates but they are fairly large files and without a host to keep files can send em around.

Never seen 12x18 boards before ... at least I don't think so. I've always used 11x17. Actually, most of the time now, because I'm digital, I just work at print size and high resolution. As long as the dimensions line up so that things aren't getting cut off you should be fine either way.

I don't think 12x18 is a standard comic size. It's a standard paper size, but not so much for comics. I had about half a ream of 12x18 vellum I had to have cut down so I could print out blue line on it.

Until the early sixties the standard used to be a *live area* of 12x18, which is exactly double the final print size so was referred to as "twice-up," with the paper size being 13- or 14x20.

Well, the size they are using nowadays is 1/4 larger the final print size (10"x 15") instead the double of it. Actually, you can work at any proportion from the final print size. Then, before to send the page, resize it to the standard 6.5 x10 inches print size. |

I have some original artwork that was done on 12x 18 pre-ruled boards. From Darkhorse. I had a lot of Buscema Savage Swords original art and depending on inker the paper was Marvel, cut sheets of plain bristol and some oversized.
