'Fraid not, buddy. Sashimi is just raw fish, no rice. Some sushi contains sashimi, but it is not a defining ingredient. The little pats of rice with a bit of fish on top are nigiri, and the rolls are maki. I forget what the pouches are called.

Anyhow, I hated the roe on sushi until I actually got some at a decent sushi bar; it's good when it hasn't been sitting out like at the nasty buffets.

I love sushi or maki or whatever you want to call it and I have not found one that I have disliked yet (I try at least one new when we go to the place by our house).

My wife on the other hand will only eat salmon sashimi or salmon nigiri. She actually hates maki.

Also, that scene that LGM gave, you are suppose to eat the octopus on a stick and swallow it whole.

Maybe in Japan but that's from a Korean movie and that guy is a vegetarian

One day I was taking a break in the lobby at work when an Asian student I vaguely knew offered me a whole platter of homemade sushi. She had brought it to class but most of her classmates refused to try it. It was fantastic. I forget what all sorts of sushi she had made, but I recall that she had real wasabi (most of the wasabi you get in North America is just died horseradish paste) and fresh as well as pickled ginger (restaurants usually only have pickled).

If I ever find a restaurant that serves sushi like that I'm going to move in.

One of my friends has sushi parties every once in a while. They are a lot of fun.

I LOVE Sushi!!

My Fav's:
Prawn Tempura Roll
Avocado Maki
Dragon Roll

And if you like crab...get the Carburetor! It's the same as the Prawn Tempura Roll, only with a large scoop of cooked deviled real crab on top.

Mostly of the rolls in an American joint are cooked. They have a lot of fried ones.
