Ideas about ASBAR.

I found this quote on another board.

Quote:
This comic has to be a satire. It must. Frank Miller is laughing at all the people who think this is cool. He's just doing it because it's Miller and Lee on Batman, and it'll sell no matter what, and he's just gone Bat$%#@ crazy with the idea that he can do anything he wants and it'll be the top selling title this month.

He doesn't hate superheroes. He hates the "mature" fans of superheroes.

That's my theory. But I don't read the book. If I wanted heroes acting like a-holes I'd buy Marvel.
I think he's got a point.

I have to wonder if Frank honestly likes working with Jim Lee. No matter what Frank thinks, the book still sucks. I personally feel that either one of the Kuberts would have been a better choice for art. Lee's style just doesn't mesh with Miller's. If he is wring a crappy script on purpose, then I believe in the end it will come back to bite him in the ass.

Personally I am sick and tired of the Batman origin stories.

I think the fact is that Miller can seemingly do no wrong with some fans. The book is a year late and Wonder woman is running around like some Feminazi.

Are any of these characters likable? How hard is it to screw up Batman Superman and Wonder Woman all in one shot.

I think Frank has gone Hollywood, and just doesn't want to be bothered with comics anymore.

ASBAR isn't very good at all, why DC would allow to shit o n WW and Supes, I don;t know. After reading the most recent issue, I don't recommend this book to anyone.

Replace 'batman' with 'Miller' and your statement holds equally true.

Miller has been mired in a state of arrested development, artistically speaking, for some time. He doesn't really seem to have anything new to offer, just the appearance of something new because it has not been applied in a particular place before...or recently.

I think he does have a point. Miller is laughing at all those readers who will buy his trash and praise it, even though it is trash, and Miller knows it. He's also laughing at DC who are willing to pay him and mollycoddle him for the self same trash. I'm a fan of a lot of Miller's work, particularly his earlier work, but most of his out put today is just plain crap, especially ASBAR!

miller's not laughing at anybody. that's stupid to suggest. the guy's a multi-millionaire who could be, and is, doing a ton of other things, but he wants to get his rocks off taking the piss out of his fans by deliberately making bad comics? comics, the art he's dedicated his life to? hate the book if you must, guys, but make sense doing it.

me, i love asbar. LOVE it. it's a ton of fun, it cracks with energy and personality, and it looks great. the scheduling is lame, no doubt. and dc did do a poor job of 'branding' all-stars. and miller's not faultless, the pacing isn't vintage frank miller, not by a long shot. but vintage frank miller is some of the best comics ever made, the heights of the craft...that's a high standard to be held to every time out.
i think if people would relax, throw away their expectations, and just read the book they might find they're missing a pretty rocking comic.

What are you talking about? Miller IS laughing his ass off. I believe that he dedicated his earlier life to comics, but now it belongs to Hollyweird. The success of Sin City and The 300 have given him a new outlet, and working with DC has given him a jaded view of the comic industry. I honestly believe that he wants to do the right thing for the fans, but his need to "give it to DC" has a stronger power over him. He was pretty pissed off that they shelved his Al Queda/Batman book.

Why would he want to "give it to DC"? Miller and the publisher have had a long and lucrative relationship.

And Holy Terror, Batman! hasn't been shelved. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Miller said he's drawn and inked about 120 pages of the story, and he's about to begin the "final 50 or so." He admitted he senses squeamishness on the part of DC executives, but that doesn't equal "shelved."

exiled,
when frank miller works for dc comics he works with editor bob schreck, who is his dear friend. so it's safe to say his working relationship, as it were, with dc is pretty ok. and yes, the success of sin city and 300 has, as you put it, given him new outlets. what's wrong with that? i love miller's stuff more than anyone, so i miss not seeing new comics from him, but why would i begrudge him the opportunity to go off and make a movie of his beloved mentor's most famous work? and like km said, 'holy terror' was never shelved by dc...are you kidding me? dc can't wait to print and sell that sucker, it's instant controversy/news coverage! miller just hasn't finished it yet.
