Are there tutorials out there for using the (Photoshop's) Pen tool for inking and coloring?
I've been fooling around with all kinds of stuff to see what i like, and considering i like really clean art, i became interested in this. (only used in the hair, below) ![]() ![]() Any links to tutorials or discussions about this? Thanks! |

I'm not sure I've seen any tutorials on this - although I'm sure they exist. I use the pen tool to ink stuff, but rather than use a stroke, I create the actual shape of the line & fill it. To get a half decent effect you need to get your line weights down at the pencil stage. One you've got it in PS, you'll need to zoom in to about 300% and use the pencils as a guide to producing the line shapes with the pen tool.
As for colouring, you can follow the same technique as is used with traditional scanned inks ie. flatting, channels etc. As an example, the figure in this piece was done using the above technique:
