I know these books are old and all but this is the first time that Ive picked them up and read them. KindomCome and Marvels. The story is great on both of them but its something that I find weird about the art. Alex Ross dont get me wrong is a damn good painter, but with his Superman and Batman looking so real. It made me sit there and think damn... These guys Sups and Bats are somewhere in there 30s and the look silly.. In those tights, Capes and underwear on the out side of their tights. I can look and Joe Mad and Jim Lee drawing the some charactors and I'll think that these guys are so cool.
Im I the only one that thinks this way? Now the only book that I can pick up is The Ultimates Thats the only book that I can pick up and say. If super power people where real this is what they would wear.
When Blade and the Matrix came out. I saw the big rise in change people wanted charactors in leather which is fin, but only for some I wouldnt like to see Spiderman wearing a leather trench coat or something. I guess after looking at Alex Ross stuff really messed me up a little bit, to the point that these guys that I grew up and loved, just looks like a bunch of clowns to me. Sorry, I just had to get this off of my chest and hope that Im not F***ing up anybody elses veiws.

Thats why the studios aren't always so wrong when they make superhero movies and change the costumes. Could you imagine Hugh Jackman in yellow tights, spikey brown boots, and a mask with fins??? It just does not translate well.

On the flip side, could superman wear anything BUT a cape? He's SUPERMAN for pete's sake, we expect theatrical outfits from someone that can fly, is invulnerable, heat vision and the rest.

Batman is much better in armor and I prefer the full facemask of the batgirl with the stitches, I thought that was far creepier then seeing a mouth.

I think the point is that iconic characters can't really be changed very well--Superman and Spiderman are so strongly identified by their costumes that they have to dress that way. Batman too, although his costume can be translated into armor and the super-cop he is.

Other characters aren't so much about their costumes. Wolverine is Wolverine, no matter what he wears. Same for the other X-Men. Daredevil could have worked fine without the red leather duds. They are are concept more than a look.

There are key issues to everyone's costumes that need to show up for them to be them. Batman has the ears and cape, Spiderman the spider-motiff and flexibility, etc. Some characters, like Blade and Wolverine, just adapt better to modern sensibilities. Some, like Superman, are just outlandish, and maybe timeless, and that fits well to their 'mythological' status.

Daredevil movie would have worked better without the red leather. They say they changed it just to make it more believable for a blind guy to wear, since they were under the impression that a blind guy just can't put on a one piece spandex suit without a hassle. Which is actually stupid since Matt Murdock is not exactly blind. And even I can fit to my bunny suit costume blindfolded.

About the comics version, I don't know why it seems like most people hated his 'armored' costume that he wore as Jack Batlin. I think it's rather cool.

The question is, "Could you imagine Hugh Jackman in yellow tights, spikey brown boots, and a mask with fins without wanting to touch your naughty bits?"

Crap, did I type that out loud?
