i have simple but complex question . first the reason for my question i am trying to reasearch so that i can get a decent busines plan together for starting a comic book publishing company . my question is how can i find out what sells and what doesn't ?

Calling a random sampling of comic retailers across the U.S. would be the best way, probably.

This is just what sells to direct market stores (not what they sell to customers) but it can give you an indication.
