Hey Digi-webby-folks!
We're a UK/France based comics studio numbering 3, with me on art, my brother Bob on words, and our genius Webmaster General Mark on all things web-and-games based.
I thought you may like to see some of our comic art, hopefully this is of interest to someone!
New art will be going up every 2-3 days...forever! Or thereabouts, hoho!

Our big, BIG release will be MOON!, a sci-fi-comedy-action-adventure-romance-space-opera-epic the likes of which has never been seen before!
Hmm...maybe that's a good thing!
Anyways, here's a style test I did a while back...
More tomorrow, folks!

Enjoyable, Lorenzo. I'm curious: What program are you using to color? I'm guessing Painter, maybe? Nice work.

I.
LOVE.
This.
Stuff!
These are fantastic, especially the web-promo flyer. The loose cartoony style works really well with the color scheme, it's got a very European, almost fairground feel to it. I'm at work at the moment, but I'm definitely gonna check out your site later.
Great stuff!

First up, some more MOON! environmental concept stuff, today in the form of a curious little floating plantation. As ever, there's tons of writing about these strange worlds and their eco-systems by my Brother, Bob, the series creator/writer/all-seeing-eye, but all that will be revealed in the pages of the comic. For now, just check out the scribbles!

Sharp, solid, pretty, energetic, fun... you guys have been at this a little while have you? Definitely need to see more of this in America. Now if it's well-written there'll be no stopping you.
One crit: I looked through One Night In the City... gorgeous of course, love the fisheye views, but there's ten or so panels up and the story doesn't seem to be progressing. If you can do a panel every five minutes that's not a problem... Sorry, just went through storyboard class in L.A. and that's where my head is at.
Amazing work!
Oh wow! This is incredible stuff! Fantastic work yo!

Hey Digital Webbers! Man, this a busy ole' forum! That's soooo coolio!
Hey Rex!! Thank you so much, friend!! Man, I'm totally buzzed that you're enjoying the work, pal!! As for whether the writing is good, well, I love my brother's stories, but I'm totally biased, so I'll post a few pages up for you to sample in a minute, hope they make you chuckle! On the ONITC count, yeah, I guess it is a slower-moving strip than our usual stuff, so slow in fact that it definately has a sort of story-board feel. Unlike a story-board though it's a much MUCH longer creative process, and I tend to post just one panle a month on this tale. That's kinda the point, though, ONITC is meant to be a considered and carefully illustrated piece, as opposed to our other, more swiftly produced comics!
Oz! Mucho Grasias! Hope you dig the rest of September's posts, pal!
Indefinatedreams! Hoho! Thank you!
Hey Press Oblivion, or EJ! Thank you, glad you dig, check back in again soon, pal, lots more on the way!
Hey Locoduck! Well, I'm not sure if my colours are that good, but there's a tutorial coming up for you anyway, which I hope will be of interest/help to your own stuff...cheers!
Let’s start today’s posts with a little page from the black and white storyline in Malcolm Magic issue 9. Reggy, Chester and Fikov have been found guilty of destroying half the 'Dale when they crashed through the interdimentional wall from Fuzzton and have been sentenced to work as a touring comedy troupe. Yep. It's THAT kind of comic! Hoho! Let's see how they get on it their big performance at Pratfall's Theatre Bowl......

like everyone else i think your stuff is very good and i keep coming back to find more, but a quick crit is that the coloring on alot of the pics is very monochromatic and a bit too dark... while good in establishing mood, if it detracts from the artwork or makes things difficult to see i'm no sure if it works entirely... this seems to be consistent in a lot of your colored stuff which in my opinion is why ppl tend to like your sketches, since they're visually easier to understand. great stuff tho keep posting more

The friendly Zombie! Yes, you're spot on about the colouring, and I'm working to improve it, I assure you! I think I tend to overload the shadows which as you say does have a tendancy to blot out some of the detail. Will work on curing this, stay tuned! Thanks for the thoughtful post!

Here's my re-design of Wonder Woman for the Leasean Thomas "Sketch-Off" over at HIS COOL SITE (http://leseanthomas.com/2.0/2.0.html)! Hope you likey guys, here's the blurb that I scrawled to go with it...
"This little lady is from waaaaay in the future, where a universe-wide peace treaty has left heroes with little to do in the name of "good". Some have faded into obscurity, others have taken Jobs in bars, but this little lady (with an Eastern European makeover, and a natty line in interchangeable robo-pins!) has carved a niche for herself in the movie industry! With a successful franchise of hit movies behind her, it looks like none can stand in the way of the celluloid legend that is..Vunder Vooman!"

Something a bit different here, as we've just got a few pics from the Bristol con we did up on the site HERE (www.studioblinktwice.com). First up, here's one of my favorite sketches I did from the weekend, this one done for the very cool lil' lady Lefran (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=59806&highlight=lefran) who was down for the day with a load of guys from ConceptArt:

Then, at the end of the first day, a very talented surfboard shaper called Dale Walker showed up at our stand asking if I'd put some art down on the nose of one of his boards. Thinking it was gonna be a lil' boogie board or somesuch, I happily agreed, only to see him strolling towards our stand ten minutes later with his own personal, fresh off the bench nine ft longboard! Yoips! Anyways, you know ole' Lorenzo likes a challenge, so I took a deep breath and went for it...

DUDE! That board is a stunner, the guy musta been well happy... simple elegance. I've raved on this thread before, but I just keep coming back for more goodies. The tutorial was great, very helpful for those of us still fumbling around.
I'm a huge fan of your concept sketches especially, not (as someone suggested) because they're cleaner or easier to read than the colors, just 'cos they're the kind of whimsical, super-creative pseudo-sci-fi that really appeals to me. Tell me, when and where will Moon be appearing? I definitely want me a slice of that action!
Thanks for making me smile and drool at the same time (and yeah, that is as messy and disgusting as it sounds!).

There are many strange and dangerous creatures in the world of MOON!, but few come close to the mysterious and perilous inhabitants of the LOST SYSTEM...!
Oh, and No, I don't know what I was thinking when I drew that left arm either! Hoho! Hey, c'mon, guys! It's a sketch! Woip!

The rest is as pretty as always. I really like the idea of the color/B&W panels running side by side.

Oh my word. This work--all of it--is absolutely gorgeous!
The concepts, the designs, the unbridled imagination, and the artwork are all just...well, they make me want to dance with carrots! :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

It's definitely great looking work. My only crit is that the moon drawing in the "Moon!" logo kinda sorta looks like a meatball. Maybe it's just me.
Maca! Oh, you know how to sweet-talk me!!! Mentioning Barbucci is probably the fastest way! Skydoll's gotta be my favorite "new" comic book, it's quite simply AWESOME! Cheers for the kind and very much appreciated comment!
^^ probably moon will be in my favorite-new-comic-book-list in a near future :har:

Hey Digital webbing peoples!! I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all you guys for the encouraging and supportive comments and feedback you've given since this thread started only a few weeks back! It's totally unexpected and very much appreciated, I shall do my best to keep the standard as high as I can to make it a worthwhile thread to return to from time to time! Cheers!
Hey Boy! So cool you dig the ole' surf board! Glad you liked it, as it was really something new to me! Also on the colour/black and white stuff - great! That was another risky decision from us, cool to hear you likey! Cheers!
Fablewood! Hoho! Top marks and a gold star to you for making me laugh the most with your great posting! Man, those dancing carrots are the BUSINESS!! Yay! Nice of you to site the imagination in the work as one of your favorite elements, as that's something I'm always working hard to improve. Many thanks, Fab!
Hey Jeff!! Hoho! No man, you got a very good point, though someone else once described it as looking like a lump of "warm cheese". Hehehe! I think I need to re-design that at some point soon!
Maca! Oh, okay, THAT'S the way to sweet talk me! Hoho! I hope it will, pal, we'll work very hard to try to make it worth your attention! Thank you!
Well, time for another chunk of MOON! concept stuff today I think, this one's from my vehicular design sheets and is some kind of mobile city, yikes!...

Okay, so time for more of that nutsy MOON! concept stuff, with a fairly recent environmental sketch. My ethos for life is that you never know when you're gonna get caught with some time on your hands, so always keep some pencils and paper close at hand! With that in mind, I did this a few weeks ago on a moving train between Bristol and London, yikes!
Oh, and remember that surfboard design? Well I've got an update on that coming for you reeeeeal soon!

For those of you who regularly check in on this thread, you'll remember the Vunder Vooman mini-tutorial I posted recently (have a look through folks, you'll find it!). Well, I figured that I'd try to do a similar thing whenever I produce an image which has some new or unusual technique involved in it's production, or which has some interesting stages within the build-up of the pic. As such, here's a VERY mini break-down of how I went from low-res photo to high-definition photoshop illustration on that ole' surfboard design...!

So, we do a new one of these mini (8-12 page) sketchbooks for every con we attend, which are free (with every £10 spent) at the stall. Limited to either 25 or 50 numbered signed editions, there have been several Malcolm SBs, lots of MOON! SBs and a One Night in the City SB, which was produced for the London Web and Mini Comic Thing we did in March 2006. Obviously, unless you've managed to get a hold of one of these rare little gems, you'll not have seen inside 'em, so I thought today I'd give you a little peek in the ONITC one, here being a few pages from it.
Note in particular the first panel, which was produced (though not with the final colours) BEFORE Christmas 2006, and probably won't feature in the strip until AFTER Christmas 2007!! And they say I can't plan ahead...!
Hope you enjoy, folks!

Hey Raven! Man, thanks so much for taking a look around the site, and taking an interest in the comics! Yes, as you saw all our titles are currently only available here in the UK, but fear not!! MOON! Will be launched Internationally in 2007, so you'll be able to pick it up right from your local comic store! Yey! In the meantime, I'll keep your eyeballs busy with pleny of new updates here in the Blink thread on DW! Cheers, pal!
Ah! Well, here's a little fun one to start the day. Anyone remember that awesome double-page ad Campbell did for Danger Girl prior to it's release way back when? Never let it be said that I don't try my best to keep this thread interesting! Following the cool feedback we got about that surfboard thing a while back, I'm gonna try to do show more of the "Away from the comic page" type things I get up to. Let's start with a T-Shirt! Every now and then I get frustrated by the lack of cool comic-art based T's and stuff out there in the shops, so I make a few of my own. Here's the design for one I did a few weeks back...
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2010/teasers31vq4.jpg

So, I return!! Well, you know what they say, folks, the best laid plans of mice and monkeys and all that, needless to say, this is my 100th image posting here in the ole' Blink thread (well, technically 100th and 101st), and as such, I had hoped to bring you guys something rather special to celebrate. Thus, I spent a few late nights putting together a cheeky little m-m-movie style imovie trailer for MOON! I had it all ready but, frankly, I've not been satisfied with the quality of the web-hosting I had planned for the piece, so have had to put it's release on hold for now. Sorry! Rather than hold up this thread any longer, I figured you folks would rather I just got on with the daily postings, and I'll do my best to get this little gem up on line for you asap!
Here, then, (to prove that I DID do it!!!) is my planned link image, and a few screen grabs, hope you likey, and here's to the next 100!! Cheers!

Okay, so, a little while ago we did an interview on the AWESOME INDIE SPINNER RACK (www.indiespinnerrack.com) with the boss-man Charlito. The good news is you can listen to it on-line! Wanna know about the release plans for MOON!? How about the origins of Malcolm? Or maybe you're more interested in the future of One Night in the City? Listen, if you will, to me and the C man discuss all this and much, MUCH more in this special UK Invasion Blink Twice special! Woot!
The show is RIGHT HERE (http://indiespinnerrack.blogspot.com/2006/09/indie-spinner-rack-issue-46.html), though you should really listen to as many of the other 'casts as you can, 'cos this is truely a great station. Enjoy!
Here's the poster that the Indiespinner guys asked us to do to advertise the UK Invasion 2-part special:

Okay guys, for those of you who think I never do anything sketchy, here's a shot of the pencils from the last piece, along with some muckety-muck shots of my Thumbnail and rough sketch! Holy smudgy pencils, Batman! Note that there was originally also a forth MOON! buggy in the piece, which I pulled out of the final lay up.
Lorenzo!
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/235/sketches37zx7.jpg
So, here's a detail from the Indie Spinner Rack poster. I'm posting this at bigger-than-big size, as I wanted to show the benefits of using pencil lines as opposed to inked lines in the pages of MOON! My inking, having always been a bit shaky, has never blown up very well. That, and the fact that it is essentially pixelated more by the cleaning process than pencils. So, I though I'd show you this detail of the Indie spinner pic, much larger (in terms of screen size) than the original artwork. I think it blows up pretty good! Plus, it may even be big enough that those of you who are inclined to put this stuff up on your bedroom/studio/office/toilet walls can get a good A4 print off it. Or use it as a wallpaper right on your desktop! Lovely!
Lorenzo!
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/9105/teasers28ih7.jpg
I wanted to post another pencils panel from MM11. This shot exemplifies just why I consider Bob's writing to be absolutely perfect! When I read a script that describes a single panel with an 11-stage sequence of Reggy, Chester and Fikov fighting with Sebastian the Bat for Dang's Whirdly Staff whilst on the back of Kenneth, the other Bat, flying precariously over the rooftops of Happy Hippy Dale, I just think: THIS is what comics are about! Here's to you bro! You're a genius, keep this mad stuff coming, there's nothing I'd rather draw!

Now then, after the confusing nature of the previous piece, here's one that's a little more straight forward, albeit with some elements of the image missing! Here's the Gullivans getting a bit of a shock whilst in the middle of a nice little sit-down meal! Meow! Sound effects and some vector-based action lines will eventually go into the final inks to make this pic complete, but for now, I hope you enjoy the pencils!

Okay, folks, so I've been meaning to do another lil' tutorial for a while now, and I've actually got several backed up, including one on painting rain, and another on creating complex interior environments, but today we're gonna start with something a little more basic. For those of you who find this a bit boring I apologise, but we've had LOADS of questions to the site about our process for creating a normal B&W page recently, so I thought I'd start with that. In my opinion, the pencilled page is nicer than the inks, but then, that's why I'm doing MOON! all in pencils! Hoho! Hope this is an interesting little journey, folks! More new images VERY soon!

Well here we are folks! I promised you something fun for today, and I hope I deliver. We've never produced a print or poster of any kind before (because, well, it's all about the comics, baby!), so when Bob and I decided it was time we did, the task was set upon with Gusto! We wanted it to be a MOON! image, but rather than just a standard splash-style pic, I wanted to produce something which would show what the INTERIOR art will be like in MOON! So here it is, available in a strict edition of just 30 A3 high-res prints, all of which will be sold at the LONDON MCM EXPO (http://www.londonexpo.com/index.shtml) on the 28th-29th October 06, the first ever Blink Print...
This is what every page of MOON! is gonna look like, folks! YES you should be excited! Hoho!

Ah! Happy Friday! So, here's one which is so hot off the press you can still smell the pub it was drawn in!! Hoho! Had a lil' sketch session with a few of the guys from Concept Art who reside here in Bristol (hey J-man! whassup, B!) on Wednesday eve. Did a couple of vehicle designs for the tippity-top secret MOON! project I mentioned a while back, but also knocked out this lil' bad-boy, and I thought you guys might like to see. I've got hundreds of these type MOON! environs backed up, but am finding them a bit of a time drag to digitally clean, so recently moved from sketching in pencil to sketching with a humble biro, and I love it!! The softness of pencil, the cleanliness of ink, it meant this pic required almost no cleaning, just scanned it in straight from the layup page! Clearly the way ahead, methinks...

So, Malcolm Magic issue 11 is coming on nicely, here's another panel of interior art, dressed up as a little web flyer.
On another note, those of you who like all this nonsense, but would really rather a little more of it, will be pleased to hear about the recent launch of Blog Twice: the Blink Blog. This is the place where you'll find a whole load of other stuff about the comics and studio, lots of exclusive new art going up, and other such gems that won't be seen here in the Blink thread. Rather than post images up in the random order they go up in here, I'll also be grouping the art as it updates, and will go into more detail about the production of images than you currently get here. It's also a team Blog, meaning that you'll get Bob popping in from time to time to post up news on the scripting and general creation of all our adventures, and Marky will be in there too to let you know of any web-based wonders on the way. Oh, and don't forget you can get your art in there too: have a read of the "Blink Buddies" posting from Tuesday 17th Oct to find out how! Just click the pic of Kweet, fellow Blinkers!
Of course, you'll still be able to get almost daily updates right here in the Blink Thread each and every week, so sit tight, and get ready for more fun!

Hey gang, something a bit different today, for those of you who like words AND pictures! Hoho! I've been meaning to get a proper break-down of the madness which is the Malcolm Adenture up here for a while, and when doing a quick layup for the "Previously, in Malcolm Magic..." section of the new issue I realised I had the perfect excuse. So here, in Bobber's own words, is what's gone on thus far, along with some interior art shots you may not have seen before (prepare to be confused!)...

As usual, I'll be doing free sketches all weekend for those who want them, and will post up a whole load of pics of my faves in here next week. So come along, come see us, chat comics and get yourself an original slice of the Blink - for nothin'!! Here, Rasper, Tonka and Kweet will tell you how...

So, today's a big day in the church of Blink, as our founding member, mister Robin Etherington (aka broski) has a big ole Birthday!!!! As many of you will know, by bro creates, writes and letters every single one of our adventures, and is the giant BRAIN behind all things Blink. Getting to work with my brother on these insanely fun projects is an absolute dream come true, and is the kind of thing we naively would chat about in tree houses, on our bikes, and in rooms strewn with copies of The Beano and episodes of Charlie's War as kids. Little did we know back then the world's a lot more complicated than it seems when you're seven, and sticking to our guns on producing the kind of comics we really care about has meant a great deal or perseverance and dedication. With Bob at the wheel though, it's always an absolute delight and sitting down at the drawing board each day here in Blink Towers with a new page of script is always exciting: wondering where he'll whisk my imagination and my pencils off to this time. So happy B-day, Bo-bo, can't wait until the Blink Team meets up tomorrow for a weekend of con-based Birthday shenanigans! Cheers!

Here's something special to start your week!! As some of you may know, here at The Blink we don't sell the original pages of art from our comics. Ever. In fact, we don't undertake commissions or commercial work of any kind (y'know, it's all about the comics, baby). So, the only way to get your hands on some original Blink comic art is to either get a free sketch at a con, or win an original board in one of our competitions run through the site and in the comics. Well, okay, there is ONE other way, and that's the annual Blink Art Auction, where just once a year we give you the opportunity to bid on just one piece of Blink art, and this year it's something fairly special - the original pencils for the cover of Malcolm Magic issue 11!! Yikes! The idea here is that the piece goes to a fan, so the ebay auction starts on Friday with NO reserve, NO starting price and FREE postage to ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! Aren't we good to you?! Oh, and we're also gonna throw in a full set of issues 1-12 of the UK-only single issues of Malcolm Magic, soon to be discontinued! Here's a shot of the piece after a digital clean, the original is a little more smudgy!!
More news on this once it's up and running guys!

As a little aside, the Annual Blink Auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/Malcolm-Magic-Original-Art-Board-Full-Set-Of-Comics_W0QQitemZ190050380148QQihZ009QQcategoryZ972 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)for just one piece of original art is up! It's also probably your only EVER chance to get your hands on a set of the UK-only single issues of Malcolm Magic if you live outside of the UK - which will be discontinued next year.

On another note entirely, an exceptionally cool book on the history of our favourite artform has just come out called Great British Comics (http://www.amazon.com/Great-British-Comics-Paul-Gravett/dp/1845131703). Frankly, this book is amazing, and is a must for anyone who has a passion for sequential art of any kind, or who just wants to see more of this county's rich comics history. Most excitingly for us though, is that on page 79 you'll find dear old Malcolm Magic!! Wowza!! Opened a few bottles of "Monsieur LaPunch's Celebratory Ale" down in the Blink Lounge Bar about that one, I can tell you!! Cheers! Hic!

We've got a couple of shows coming up in London - next one is in March, and then there's one in May, will give plenty of early warning about 'em here in the thread, hope you'll be able to come along and say hey! So cool you got a copy of that book, it won't dissappoint, I assure you, it's flippin' brilliant! Cheers, man, and I hope you continue to enjoy this ole' thread!!
Okay, folks, so it's time for another of them's old tutorials! Here, for those of you who are interested is a little step by step exploring the thinking behind that MOON! print I posted a while back. Re-reading this, I wonder if it feels a little airy and vague, but what I'm trying to talk about is how you approach the piece with your head, as opposed to just technique. Anyways, here's the first three steps, the last four will be posted over the next few days, hope it's of interest/help to someone out there! Cheers!

Sketchbattles. They're pretty cool, right? Right. But sometimes they lack that bite to get you to really do your best. But what about a battle with no prize for the winner, but REAL punishment for the losers?!! Well, a site that's lost none of it's teeth is the almighty EATPOO, and their Survivor Battle, has got just that right mix of fear and creativity that gets my scribbling hand drawing.
This really is a Battle to the Death, with nine of us going into the Arena, and only one coming out, all eight losers being completely and permanently deleted from the Eatpoo forums! Yikes! That's the prize; no cash, no rewards, just survival. It's gonna be quite a show, and I hope you'll wanna come along and vote for/support your ole' pal Lorenzo, or at least witness my very public and very conclusive defeat! Never let it be said that I'm too proud to take getting my a$$ kicked publicly!
A little warning, this is a site of fairly hardcore guys, and as such, the easily offended should steer clear, as the language flies around like poop off a well-oiled shovel! If, however, you just wanna see a low-down-and-dirty sketch rrrumble to the death, go HERE (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47332) and cheer along/throw insults at we nine fighters, and on Monday they'll post a new thread for the final Gladiators to enter and then the voting begins!! I'll be in there, and I'll be bringing a little something I think you guys might likey...
Are you not entertained?!

Some of the images in the thread are already proving to be rather nasty, I'm NOT kidding, guys and girls, DO NOT go in there if you're easily offended, please! Or, on the other hand, DO go in there and vote for Lorenzo BECAUSE he never offends anyone!! Raise a sword for feel-good scribbling, folks! Between now and midnight I will unleash not just a fighter...but an ARMY...HERE! (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47560)

So, we've had alot of requests for link bars for the site recently, and I've been having a bit of fun knocking around some designs. Here's a few ideas I thought you might like to see...!

In the mean time, the Eatpoo Survivor Battle continues, and those with strong nerves should go check out the entries, including a brand new HUGE full colour pic from me. I have no delusion that I'll win this, but it'd be nice to get a few votes nonetheless, so if you wanna, GO HERE (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47560) (it's a link, guys!) and support your pal L! Here's the blurb that goes with my piccie...

Okay, so it's not ALL art; there are a few pics of the Blinkers monkeying around in there too, but it's 99.9% pure comicy goodness! GO HERE (http://studioblinktwice.deviantart.com/) to have a look around! Cheers! And here's to the next 300!

Okay, this is the last time I harp on about this. I promise. Here's the facts, folks...!
#1 I'm entered in the Eatpoo Survivor Sketchbattle.
#2 There is no prize of any kind for the winner, just survival. ALL the losing competitors get deleted from the site. PERMANENTLY.
#3 Your vote will make a difference, but you have to be a registered member of the forum to place it. REGISTER HERE (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/profile.php?mode=register&sid=5302aba4eb0f2772d35b0628d84413e8) (standard comic art forum, takes about ten seconds!)
#4 Once regitered (or if you're already a member) GO HERE, AND VOTE! (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47560) (Lorenzo, hopefully!).
#5 Of course, I don't expect you to do all this for any old piece of scribbled pap, so I hope you dig what I've come up with. If you need further convincing, see below for the pencils, shadows, and a couple of blow-ups of some of the characters. To be honest though, you really need to see THE MASSIVE, FULL COLOUR VERSION HERE! (http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47560)
Okay, voting ends midnight TONIGHT, so I hope you guys will take a few moments out to get involved, we don't need many votes to swing it, but if a decent number of folks participate we could get a landslide, which would be very cool.
If not, I'll be starting tomorrow's post with "well, I sure got MY a$$ kicked!!"
Thanks to all the guys who have already voted – absolutely awesome of ya! Thanks for the support!

Thanks to all the guys who took the time to vote; as expected, I got thoroughly trounced by Sunder! Hoho! I am, however, still just about alive, and my survival has been put to a vote...let's see what happens..!
While I'm rolling around on the dust of the coliseum floor, you guys may enjoy, from the comfort of your easy chairs and laptops, another piece of MOON! concept art. A sketch here of a corridor aboard the vastness of the MOON! studios, this is a piece from the 6th MOON! Sketchbook we're releasing at the BIRMINGHAM (http://www.thecomicsshow.co.uk/) CON next weekend, hope you dig...!

Then, as it's con week, I thought I'd continue to harp on about some of the stuff we're gonna be releasing. Apart from the final issue of Malcolm, and the 6th MOON! SB, we're gonna have the first (and probably last) ever Malcolm print available! A limited edition of just 20 numbered and signed bad-boys, these utilise my favourite ever Malcsy image from the cover to Book 3, appropriate as we're waving goodbye to our big-eared chum! Here's a shot of the print, along with a (typically blurry) shot of my one framed on the red, red walls of the Great Blink Hall! GO HERE (http://www.thecomicsshow.co.uk/) to check out all the other great stuff going on at the show!

That's a really REALLY cool pic mate! Any way to get hold of a MOON! sketchbook for those of us who can't make the trip to Bristol this weekend? I missed the London con but I'd very much love to track down a copy if at all possible.
And any dates yet for the release? C'mon man, this cardboard box outside Forbidden Planet is getting mighty cold these days...
Lorenzo
12-11-2006, 06:08 AM
Hey Matt! Pal, thank you soooo much for the kind words on the print - you the man!! Unfortunately the ole' SB's were all snatched up at the con, but worry not: there'll be plenty more MOON! sketchbooks released in 2007! Yeah!
Man, that cardboard box is gonna need heating, methinks, bro! Haha! MOON! release dates, huh? Stay tuned man, something coming for ya soon...!
Well, we just had a really rather awesome time at the Birmingham con, but more of that later...
After 3 years, 300 pages of script, 220 pages of art, tons of covers, specials, sketchbooks and suchlike, it's time for Malcolm Magic to finally hang up his ears.
Without the dedication, enthusiasm and downright genius of my partner in command and bro Robin, who created this entire adventure from scratch and then penned each issue in a way which a dumba$$ like me could understand ("Malcolm goes on the left of the panel...the LEFT. No, your OTHER left.." etc) none of this would EVER have happened. So thank you bro, for showing me that a little spark can start a VERY large engine. In fact, you better get up here on the Bridge, and bring Marky, 'cos MOON! ain't gonna drive itself you know...
HA-ZAA! We did it!

So, the Birmingham show was an absolute blast, as those of you who made it will testify. For a first show in a new city the attendance was great, and the diversity and numbers of exhibitors represented a fantastic cross-section of the UK and Euro indie and mainstream scene. As I was the only "pure" Blink team member there (my older bro Will was stepping into the shoes of Bob and Mark for the weekend) I couldn't do as much sketching as normal, but here's a few of my faves from the weekend...
Cheers to everyone who came, and I'll see y'all in Exeter in the New Year, fellow conners!

So, as we head into 2007 you'll notice a few changes here in the ole' Blink Thread. Due to several international MOON! releases we've got coming up in the next 6 months or so, there's alot of stuff in production on the Blink drawing board I can't show you at the moment. Due to that, there may be a slight lull in the frequency of posts here in the thread, but I'll do my best to throw at least one or two pieces your way each week. Oh, and of course, work on MOON! season 1 continues too, here's a concept for one of MOON!'s engine rooms. This design was ultimately discarded as it didn't really hit any of the marks I had in my head for this environment, but I thought you guys may like to see it anyway.
Cheers, and have a great New Year's Eve!

So, three newies today, all from different stages of production. First up is an unfinished design I did for a member of the MOON! crew's quarters. Then there's a scribbly-scribbly "straight on the page" design for a WALKABOT, along with some preparatory thumbnails, and the script description Robin gave me. As you can see, I veered off topic somewhat, and it ended up looking fairly different to what he had in mind, I think! Hoho! Finally, another bit of plantlife design for a planet in issue 2 of MOON!
Enjoy, folks, more VERY soon!

Well, convention time is around the corner, and ahead of the London Comix Thing and the Big Bristol Show, I'm gonna be rolling the ole' Blink bandwagon up to a little one-dayer as part of the awesome Animated Exeter (http://www.exeter.gov.uk/animatedexeter/index.aspx?articleid=6207) animation festival. We were invited to produce the official poster for the con, and here it is. A Malcolm Magic/Star Wars crossover! HA-ZAA! Who'd have thought Fikov would make such a good Wookie?! Hoho! Well now, I been away for a loooong time in the world of Blink Forum posting, huh? But I'm back this week with a TON of exciting news!
First up, I'm here to officially announce the FIRST EVER MOON! INTERNATIONAL RELEASE!!!!! That's right, folks, after harping on about this ole' title for sooo long, it's time we put our comic pages where our mouths are...er...or something! For a while now we've been wanting to get some MOON! stuff out there ahead of the series launch, and when the kool Kats at hipper-than-hip comic publishers VIPER (www.vipercomics.com) invited us to produce a special MOON! story for their forthcoming Josh Howard Present's: Sasquatch Anthology, we said "Damn right, Homies!". You've already seen a lot of the concept work from it, as I've been referring to it as the "super-secret-special MOON! story" for months in this here thread. So what have we put together for you? Well, as it's gonna be your first taste of the Mooniverse, we wanted it to be something special, so the Blink boys and I have put together a honking-great 15-page full colour exclusive story jam-packed with more goodness than a slab of Auntie Blink's Highland Toffee! I'll be posting more news/teasers on this soon, but be sure to head over to VIPER (www.vipercomics.com) for the latest news on the release date. There's also a special Viper Sasquatch blog which I'll be updating HERE (http://www.thisisnotahoax.com/), and you can read a little preview review over at diamond, where the book got a STAFF PICK HERE (http://previews.diamondcomics.com/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=6&s=221&ai=36486)! Most importantly, I expect you're wanting to know the book's Diamond previews order code, it's: FEB073830.
Also, don't forget it's just a few weeks until the ANIMATED EXETER (http://www.exeter.gov.uk/animatedexeter/index.aspx?articleid=6207) festival at which we'll be attending a little one-day comic con, hope to see you guys there. And finally, dear ole' Malcolm Magic has been nominated for an Eagle Award!!!! The Eagles are the UK's BIG annual comics awards, and dear ole' Malcsy is up in the category of Favourite Black and White Comicbook - British, VOTE FOR THE FUNNY BUNNY HERE! (http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/nominate.asp)
Right, that's it, here's today's pic, a teaser for the Viper MOON! story, enjoy peeps, more soon!

Ho-kay, so, following on from last week's MOON! special release announcement, I got another for you today! Lordy! It is proving to be a busy year, huh? So, without further ado, I'd like to tell you about a VERY cool underground comic that's coming your way. The Brainchild of good Blink Buddy Jamie Smart (yes, the guy behind the AWESOME BEAR (http://www.jamievsworld.com/) series from Slave Labour), this is gonna be one fun little rag! Entitled FAT CHUNK and distributed through BOHDATE (http://www.bohdate.com/) (yes, they'll take international orders! Yeah!) this Black and White bad-boy is gonna be a REAL underground comic in every sense, and the Blink are getting involved too, with an exclusive 3-page MOON! mini adventure! More news on the release soon, but needless to say there's a whole slew of great guys involved in this one, so get on over to the myspace page HERE (www.myspace.com/fatchunkcomic) for all the latest.

RangerBob! Man, great to see you, pal! Thank you so much for the great words, buddy! No, you're right, the Malcolm Magic series is not available outside the UK, but MOON! will be. As soon as the Viper Anthology is on Amazon, I'll post a link, pal! Cheers for the support!
Well, here we are folks, only a few days until I drag the ole' Blink wagon to the Exeter Comics Expo (http://www.exeter.gov.uk/animatedexeter/index.aspx?articleid=6207), a little one-day show as part of the Animated Exeter Animation festival. As usual, we're producing a new MOON! mini sketchbook just for the show, with a limited edition run of just 25, only available on the day, and FREE with every £10 spent at the Blink stand. We'll also have all the Malcolm Magic back issues and trades and stuff, as well as portfolios of my original boards, including your first chance to have an exclusive sneak peek at pages form our story for the forth-coming Viper anthology.
Next up, I thought I'd share a little page of "Ornamechanica" I've been doing for issue 1 of MOON! The concept art on this one goes pretty deep, folks!
Finally, it's valentine's day, and I thought I'd show you the pic I did for my wonderful girl. You can read my Bloggy shmultzy romance over on the Blink Blog HERE (http://blogtwice.blogspot.com/), if you're in a lurve kinda' mood...

Well now, I had an AWESOME time at the Exeter Expo this weekend just gone. Thanks to all youse kool kats who came down and spent a chilled Sunday chatting comics, pencils, and MOON! The Blink will certainly be there again next year, so I hope to see all you Exeter kids again then! Cheers!
The coming of the Exeter show commences the early show season here in the UK, with three more cons on the way over the next few months. The first of these is the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing (http://ukwebcomixthing.co.uk/) on Saturday 17th March. The Blink are strong supporters of this one-dayer for all things Web and Indie, and we were lucky enough to be asked to produce the official Poster/anthology cover for this year's show. As with last year we have also produced 4-pages of exclusive MOON! Gung-Ho goodness for the anthology itself, where we will be joined by pages from many of the great exhibitors from the show. Below is the official poster, along with some snap-shots of last year's "rarer than rocking horse poo" anthology, to give you an idea of the kinda' thing you can expect to see. More on this show soon, as we have a rather exciting special release there for fans of One Night in the City amongst other things...

Mainfragger! Thank you so much, pal, that's very cool of you! Hope you enjoy today's piccies...!
Ho-kay, two exciting ones today, the first is to announce that we will be releasing the 8th MOON! Sketchbook at the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing (http://ukwebcomixthing.co.uk/) in London on Saturday 17th March. As usual, this baby will be a limited edition (50, numbered and signed) ONLY available at the con, and FREE for every £10 spent at the Blink Twice stand of deeelights! LORDY! Stay tuned for an announcement about the VERY special One Night in the City book we'll also be producing just for the show - news on this in a few days. Hope y'all can make it over to see us! The cover features the first appearance in this thread of MACY, a key MOON! character...
Secondly, and just as exciting, it's time to announce ANOTHER international MOON! release!! HA-ZAA! With the pages for Sasquatch and Fat Chunk (see earlier posts) wrapped, I'm now onto an eight-page special MOON! mini-adventure entitled "Braindead...and LOVING it!" to go in the Indie Spinner Rack (http://www.indiespinnerrack.com) anthology. Those of you who regularly check this thread will remember we've appeared on this great podcast in the past (listen to it HERE (http://indiespinnerrack.blogspot.com/2006/09/indie-spinner-rack-issue-46.html)) and were totally buzzed to be invited to be a part of their first publication. The line-up for this book is PHENOMINAL, so be expecting us to pull out all the Blinky-stops to try and make our contribution as nutsy as we can! For a little change for your eyeballs, I will be presenting all the concept work for this title in a burger-wrapper-stylee, hope you enjoy...

Ho-kay, folkses! So, as promised, I can now announce that at the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing this coming Saturday (17th) we'll be launching a very special little One Night in the City book. Collecting the first 11 paintings, as well as previously unseen pencil panels and other such goodies, we're producing just 100 numbered and signed copies of this little bad-boy. The first 30 will be on sale at the Thing, with the rest being sold at the Bristol and London shows in May. I'll show you one of 'em in a few days right here in this ole' thread! Exciting, huh?
Today's posts continue the theme set out last week of sketch and design work for our story for the Indie Spinner Anthology. Although the anthology is to be all B&W, I'm producing a lot of these designs in colour, since they involve various key characters from the MOON! first season. SOULSTA in particular is very important in the series. Note too, my obvious and unashamed tribute to the great great Hampson in the familiar designs of Pop and Timbr. Expect lots more nods to the awesome Dan Dare in future posts! These are preliminary designs, and have yet to be fully approved by Robin, but still, here they are...
Oh, and finally, I was a little bored waiting for a friend in a bar recently, so I grabbed a napkin, asked the waitress for a biro, and did a little scribbling. rooting through my pockets the other day I found said doodle, and thought I'd scan it in a do a quick colour job in Photoshop, hope you dig!
More in a heartbeat!

So, as we're getting closer and closer to the April release of the SASQUATCH (www.thisisnotahoax.com) book, I wanted to show you another sneakedy-sneak peek at the MOON! tale. Here, then, is a little break down of the four main stages of a single panel in the adventure. More in-depth colour tutorials can be found in sequence in The Blink Twice DeviantArt gallery (http://www.studioblinktwice.deviantart.com).
Secondly, here's a few snaps I did of the new products we'll have for the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing (http://ukwebcomixthing.co.uk/) in London this Saturday (17th). Alongside our existing back catalogue we'll be launching the new MOON! Sketchbook and the One Night in the City Year One book (see previous posts), and all Blink purchases will be handed to you in one of our brand new super-fly-and-uber-coolio Blink Twice bags! Twisted rope handles? I should say so! Ha-Zaa!
Gonna be awesome!

Well, what an exceptional time we had in London this Saturday just gone! That Web and Mini Comix Thing just gets better and better, as anyone who was there will testify. The Blink had such a ball, and it was awesome to meet so many great folks, especially so many of you guys from "A-Da' Web" as my man Strongbad might say. Seriously, thanks to all who stopped by the stand, it was awesome to meet you all, and an even bigger thanks to the several peeps who showed up with sketches they'd done for me before the show, that was sooooo frikkin' coolio!!!!!!
So, as promised, today's pic gives you that page from Sasquatch in full colour, more soon...!

So, two today, and they're both kinda' biggies!
To start with we have the very first sneak peek at a pencils panel from our forth-coming Indie Spinner Rack anthology MOON! adventure, more from that soon!
Secondly, I'm here to announce that, unbelievable as it may seem, we're discontinuing the entire series of single issues of Malcolm magic! Gasp! And you thought they'd be around forever?!! HA! If you wanna complete your collection, or just pic up a few copies of issue one to sell on Ebay for a massive profit in twenty years' time, then be sure to come see us at the big Bristol and London shows in May (more details of them soon). If, however, you can't make it to the shows, and you live in the UK, then you may wanna head on over to BROOMFELLA'S STORE (http://www.malcolmmagic.com/store/index.php). But hurry, you've only got until the 1st May, then those babies become RARE!!!
Cheers!

Hey folks! Well, I been away for a while, mainly due to web-based problems, time to get back to a more regular fix of Blinky nonsense!
First up, a little promo piccie I knocked to celebrate the fact that we're in this month's copy (issue 17) of the excellent British mag IMAGINE FX (http://www.imaginefx.com/)! Nice!
Secondly, a huge thank you to everyone who voted for Malcolm in the first round of the Huge 2007 Eagle awards, the UK's main comics awards ceremony. We're very excited to now be in the final shortlist for "Best B &W Comic - British". All you need to do to try and help us grab that golden trophy is visit the Eagle Awards website (http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/vote.asp) before 22nd April, add your email address, then scroll down to category 13: "Award for Favourite Black and White Comic book - British". Tick the MALCOLM MAGIC box and click the 'submit' button at the bottom of the page. I hope you can help the funny bunny scoop the prize, but please don't do multiple votes under the same email, as they will get disqualified. Cheers, folks!
More soon!

Hey-hey, Initial Monkey! Thank YOU pal, that's awesome, glad the thread's makin' you smile! More tute's on the way too, so stay tuned! Cheers!
Ho-kay, it's a vehicular-themed one today, for all you petrol-heads and grease-monkeys out there. Fist up, is a VERY late Easter pic. I actually drew this out for Easter LAST year, but never had a chance to finish colouring it. Regular forum-ers will recognise this as the camera caddy car from a T-shirt design I knocked up a while back. Well, once again I missed posting it up for Easter, and if I don't do it this year, it'll never go up, as there's already enough dubious life drawing of Ratt and Teron there to make me cringe a little (note in particular that Ratt's tail completely disappears in panel 3!) HAHA! So here it is, in it's semi-coloured form, hope you enjoy...
Next up, a tiny-tiny concept I did even longer ago of the main method of transport for Ratt and Teron within the 1st season of MOON! My intention has always been to build this machine up at full scale, possibly for shows, but really just so that I can run around town in it thinking I'm a dood. Well, back at the Blink Manor these past few weeks, the wheels of Kustomisation have finally been set in motion, and the old girl's starting to come together. A long way to go yet, but here's a couple of pics for those of you who wonder what I'm doing when I'm not scribbling the ole' funny pages. That's Mr Etherington Senior in one of those shots, the greatest dad in the world!
Cheers, folks, more in a bit!

So, for those of you who have met us at a show, or chatted in here, you'll know there's one question we always ask: "You are coming to Bristol, right?" And there's good reason for this, as The Bristol Comic Expo (http://www.comicexpo.net/) is certainly the biggest show of it's type here in the UK, and it's got a special place in the hearts of team Blink, not least since I live in this ole' town! The best news of course is that it's now just a few weeks away, and boy are we gonna have some new stuffs for ya'! More on all the rest soon, but for now, I wanted to show you the cover of the new MOON! Sketch book we'll be releasing for the show. Regular readers will know the drill: These mini-format beauties are a limited edition (75) and are FREE with every £10 spent at the Blink stand over the weekend of the 12th-13th May, then they're gone for good!
Yikes!
More soon, space cadets!

Okay, folks, so here's a fun one for ya!
With the launch of VIPER's Sasquatch Anthology (http://www.vipercomics.com/default.asp) just a few weeks away, we wanted to give you another look into the creative process that went into this first ever MOON! international release.
I thought I'd give you a break-down of a full-set reveal of soundstage two during the filming of "It Came From Over There!". As I've spoken in the past several times about the technical side of my drawing/colouring process, I wanted to talk this time about the concept of a pic like this, and how I try to use the environmental detailing to tell more about the situation/world the story is set in. I hope this is of interest to some folks, and if not, just ignore my prattle and check out the scribblings.
Hope you enjoy!

these step-by step processes help us budding artists so much. I feel at times that certain artists hide there processes almost out of fear that others will know- and perhaps do it better. I dont know...
but there is a lack of process-descriptions, when I find them to be the most fascinating.
Your pieces are simply great and I like the presentation. We can all only hope to someday be doing work this damn good.
I for one am trying ;-)
bravo

Hey Justin! Thanks so much for the comments, man, I totally agree with your thoughts on tutorials, that's why I do 'em when I can! Ha-zaa! I have done other tuters similar to thish with more in-depth process descriptions, if you look back through this threrad you'll find 'em! Thanks, bud, hope you dig today's piccies!
Lots of release announcements and piccies today!
The ole' Sasquatch anthology is out! Featuring an exclusive 15 page MOON! story "Memoirs of a Bigfoot", along with over 200 other pages of great stories by a ton of other awesome indie guys, this really is a must have! You should be able to grab this off the shelf/order in a copy to your local comic store, or you can pick it up direct from The Viper Store (http://www.vipercomics.com/shop/) or HERE (http://www.amazon.com/Josh-Howard-Presents-Sasquatch/dp/0977788385/ref=pd_bbs_sr_6/102-6388585-6136129?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178620136&sr=8-6<br%20/>) on Amazon. Go get some!
Another announcement for those of you heading to the Bristol show (http://www.comicexpo.net/) for the weekend, it's looking highly likely that Fat Chunk, Jamie Smart's awesome new underground B&W anthology comic o' joy, will be launched at the show! This baby features an exclusive 3-page MOON! mini adventure entitled "Everyone Love Kittykat", and tons of other great stuff besides. Jamie will be on a table directly next to the Blink stand, so come along and shoot the breeze, chipmunks!
Next up, for those of you getting geared up for season 1 of MOON!, I've decided to re-design how I present the sketches and concept work for the series. As you can see from the Killbot piece below, each concept will now come with info on which season/issue it relates to, and the script name of the character/machine/environment/etc. They will also be numbered, for those of you that like to get a complete collection of things.
Finally, the big one! Along with the forth and final Malcolm trade (of which more soon) we'll also be launching the new MOON! Space Log this month! Yoikes! Featuring 68 pages of concept art, character designs, and all sorts of other visual gems, along with a TON of new words by Bobber on many elements of the Mooniverse, this baby is packed to the rafters with joy! The planned launch is this weekend (11th/12th) at the Bristol show (http://www.comicexpo.net/), but current print issues may mean we launch it at the London MCM Expo (http://www.londonexpo.com/) on the weekend of the 26th/27th instead.
Fingers crossed we'll have it at Bristol though you'll be able to pre-order it with FREE postage to any UK address if we don't.
We'll DEFINATELY have the new Malcolm book, the next 30 ONITC year one books, and the new 9th MOON Sketch book, along with our entire back catalogue, so that's exciting, eh?
Ha-zaa! more later this week ahead of the show, peeps!

So, here it is, folks, the final volume of Malcolm will be launched at the Bristol Comic Expo (http://www.comicexpo.net/) this weekend (12th/13th May)! Collecting together the final three issues (#10, #11, #12), along with a cover gallery and three all-new chapter splash pages, two of which I have shown here. This coincides of course with us discontinuing all the single Malcolm issues, so after the Bristol show and the London MCM expo in two weeks, the books are all you'll be able to get!
Whoip!
Secondly, those of you coming to the Bristol show will most probably be on the lookout for Fat Chunk, Jamie Smart's underground anthology of wonders! Here's a little sneak-peek taken from our three page mini-MOON! adventure, "Everyone Love Kittykat"
See you at the show, peeps, and if you pick up a copy of FC, tell Jamie Lorenzo sent you! Haha!

Well, what a show Bristol was!!! VERY good for the Blink in all kinds of ways, some of which I will tell you more about soon, but in the meantime I wanted to show you a few of the sketches I did at the show. Thanks SO much to all you guys who came over to say hey, buy some comics, or show us your great stuffs! It was all awesome!
Right off the back of Bristol we charge straight into the London MCM Expo (http://www.londonexpo.com/), and it's gonna be a biggie! Due to ridiculously swift sales at Bristol, we're currently out of stock of the new Malcolm and MOON! books, but we're gonna do our best to have more printed ready for London. Either way, we'll also have the full back catalogue of Malcolm, MOON! and Tusk books and comics, and the brand new MOON! 10th Sketchbook!! As with previous shows, there'll be 75 of these numbered and signed puppies up for grabs, FREE with every £10 spent at the show on the weekend of the 26th/27th May. Those of you at the Bristol show will know we got through almost all 75 just on the Saturday, so be sure to get to the London show early to avoid missing out on this exclusive beauty!
Excellent, more con sketches from Bristol tomorrow!

Okay, so those of you who read this thread regularly will already know that despite my endless rambling in here, I don't actually write any of our comics. No, the fountain pen to my crayons is my ole' brother Robin, who creates and pens all our adventures. Up until now he's been fairly quiet on the web, but all that's about to change! A little while ago we were approached by top man Michael May from Comic World News, asking if we'd be interested in running a Blink column on their mighty site. The answer? Sweet baby cheeses!! Damn right! So, you can now catch my bro's thoughts on all the things that make us love comics each and every month in his "Comics Have Never Been so Much Fun" (http://www.comicworldnews.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?column=fun) column. Go there, peeps!

First up, ahead of the huge LONDON MCM EXPO (http://www.londonexpo.com/) this weekend (26th-27th) I'm excited to announce that we're gonna have a load of copies of the fresh-out Sasquatch anthology, featuring an exclusive 15-page MOON! Adventure! Below is a little piccie of Ratt introducing an unknown "friend" to this awesome anthology, along with some snaps I took of the book and some of our story pages...
I've also posted a map on The Blink Blog (http://blogtwice.blogspot.com/) along with a stock list for those of you coming to the show who want to know where we'll be/what we're bringing.
Secondly, the last of the Bristol Expo sketches for now, and it's girl for once! Yey!

Whoooooo-eee! What a show THAT was!!! So, I'm back in Bristol after spending the bank holiday weekend tooling across London with Bo-bo in the ole' Amazon to and from the MCM Expo at the Excel centre. As usual, we had an awesome time, met a lot of new Malcolm and MOON! fans, saw a ton of regular Blink buddies and generally larked about in the name of selling comics.
Thanks to all who came and chatted to us, you guys make the shows for us so cheers, and we'll see you in October at the next one, but right now, bring on the summer!

Hey-hey, folkses!!!
Well, Bo-bo's second column over at the awesome Comic World News is now up! This month he talks about French comics writer Jean-David Morvan and in particular his series "HK". GO HERE (http://www.comicworldnews.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?column=fun) to enjoy the images, soak up my bro's genuine love for great comic books, and learn a little about a title you may not have come across before...!
Next up, another London con sketch. This one was for a long-time Blink reader who's had a few sketches from me before. He asked for something a little different this time in the form of a Lorenzo-take on a Transformer, and, well, here's the result! Note in particular how I was doing quite well until the final stage, where for some reason the front fenders disappear altogether! Still, real rods should always fun fenderless anyway, right? Haha!

Next up, here's a little piccie I did for my wonderful girl for our 6 1/2 year anniversary, which we celebrated this weekend. As ever, Esty is the greatest thing in my life; she continually fills my days with colour, laughter and smooches! Thank you baby, you're purrrrfect!!

So, those of you who are web-savvy will of course come across the awesome Deviant Art, one of the internet's biggest and best free on-line gallery sites. Never one to shy away from a great creative community, I've been posting new work up there for a little while now, and today I posted our 400th seperate image!!! Lordy! Anyways, I'm always up for chatting to folk in there, so why not drop by and say hi? Okay, so unusually I can't show you anything new this week, since I've been hard at work on various projects I can't post just at the moment. Obviously posting NOTHING would simply not do, so I wandered down into the vaults here at Blink Towers and found some stuff which for one reason or another is unlikely to see the light of day in any kind of finished format. Hope you enjoy,

So, to start with, just a lil' ooooooold one here, a web flyer for the original Space Log, the first in our series of MOON! companions. If you live in the UK, you can pick it up in the store HERE (http://www.studioblinktwice.com/products/index.htm) at SBT!
Next, another sketch from the Bristol con here, this one for Uber-super-fan #1, Mikey! The image depicts the little penguin with the lollipop and the toy duck that I hide somewhere in every comic we produce; that's right, he's tucked away in every copy of Malcolm, Tusk, and MOON! Get searching, folks!
And finally, more pages from our MOON! story in Viper's Sasquatch Anthology (www.vipercomics.com), here Bigfoot prepares for his opening scene in "It Came From Over There!"...
...he's like, SO method!
More soon, cup-cakes!

What can a bloke do to get some of your comics over here in the US?

Hey Big Dog! Haha! Yeah, man, those babies went like hot cakes! The Sketchbooks are only ever available at Com cons, and as we're only doing shows here in the UK at the moment, you won't be able to get your hands on them in the US for a while. The full series of MOON! will be an international launch though, and until then there's always the Viper Sasquatch Anthology, the forth-coming Indie Spinner Rack anthology, and some other exciting international launches that are on the way. Stay tuned to this thread for release news, bro, and thanks for the kind words! Cheers!
A few more concepts from the first season of MOON! here, featuring a re-design of Rector's hover chair, an idea for the look of an audition booth from the opening scene of issue 1, and a Tug Truck from issue 2. More in a bit, folkses!

Hey Seth! Cheers, man, glad this nutsy stuff is to your liking! No, we're not gonna be at the Dublin con I'm afraid, but you can get our books through our site if you want, thanks man!
Three from totally different schools of thought today! First up, another Sasquatch page, part of which was you may have seen in full colour around these parts before, but here’s the full page in pencils, dig those villains!
Next up, some would-be actors from the world of MOON!
And finally, just a little doodle of a slightly cross-eyed girlie with something funny in her ear!
Ah, and today is moving day, so we shall say goodbye to dear ole' Blink Towers, the place where Malcolm Magic and MOON! and ONITC were born and raised! But fear not, for we're heading to Castle Blink, and I’m about to get Medieval on yo’ a$$, Holmes…!

Hey Michael! Thank you! Oh, and I replied to your PM, by the way, many thanks!
So, my ole' bro's gone and written another Doozey over in his "Comics have never been so much fun" column at the mighty Comic World News. The theme this month focuses on great children's comic writing, and as he mentions the genius that is Watterson, I thought it was a good enough excuse to rustle up a little Calvin and Hobbes biro sketch. Don't waste time looking at my pic though, GO HERE (http://www.comicworldnews.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?column=fun) to read his great column, and hey, don't just take my word for it, GO HERE (http://www.topshelfcomix.com/blog/archives/2007/05/) to see that those kool kats over at TOP SHELF dig it too! Great work, broski!
Following that, two more concepts from MOON! today, the first of Ratt's rocket pack, as used in Issue 1, and the second of Serenity in one of the many costumes she'll be wearing for her roles as Lead Starlet for MOON! movie studio's various properties.
Enjoy!

Well, I thought I had better come in here and let you guys know what's going on, as there's been a somewhat cavernous delay in the ole' Blink posting of late. The news is, there's too much news! Between moving studios, new projects, special projects and general MOON! goodness, I've not been able to get the time to sit down and 'puter it, and for that you gotta' accept my apologies. Stick around though, folks, 'cos there's some BIG stuff coming! To keep you going, and to get you buzzing for what's on the way, here's a little teaser for a new comics project I've recently been employed to work on, which hopefully fans of a certain animation studio will get very excited about! Proper announcement on it's way, folks!

Next up, exciting news, folks, the Indie Spinner Rack anthology, entitled "Awesome" is now available to pre-order, so I thought I'd better come in here and tell you about it, and at the same time post a little pencils-only teaser. Those of you who are long-time Blinkers may well remember the concepts I posted for this story a while back in "burger wrapper" themed stlyees. Holy monkey-chow! Lots of news today…
I can now announce that I am now an official Dreamworks (http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/dwa/opencms/index.html) artist for their Dreamworks Tales comic! When I was approached by Titan (http://www.titanbooks.com/app?service=home&sp=Sen&sp=SGB) to work on the title back in May, I was at first hesitant, not because I didn’t want to get involved in the awesome world of DW, but because I was concerned it would eat into my MOON! work time. My Ed was totally sympathetic to my schedule though, and together we came up with a workload which suited us both. I was offered the choice of which property I wanted to work on (Shrek, Over the Hedge, etc) and eventually we decided that Madagascar was the most suited to my style in terms of both look and humour. So, I’ve got a couple of stories already drawn, the first of which will be in issue #4 on sale in a month or so here in the UK, I think, but I’ll be able to confirm that properly in a few weeks. Having gone through the movie about 20 times since getting on board, I gotta say, I’ve just come to love it’s oddball humour more and more, there is some absolutely fantastic character performances, and the whole thing has such a wonderful Tex Avery chaotic feel to it – basically, right up Lorenzo’s street! Ha-zaa! Trust me when I say, I’m gonna push the boat waaaaaay out for this one, folks, and I’ll be showing you more as soon as I can! Enjoy!
So, I finally got the chance to come up with a proper page design for laying out the build shots of the Kustom I'm building with my Pa. Last time you saw the Amazonia, we were half way through getting the Dagmars and teeth in place. Well, here it is so far – the nose is now shaved, and eight of the ten teeth are in place, with two more to go in. The entire grille surround will be getting a much smoother look, once I’ve sculpted it all out, updates as they happen, folks, enjoy!
Along with all sorts of new stuff on the way, I'm buzzed to announce that my story of wandering romance in the big city is set to return this autumn. Stay tuned, folks, gonna take this one all over the place...
Finally, just a little experiment here, thought it would be fun to scribble up a pic of Serenity from MOON! in a different style, just for kicks. Hope you guys dig!

Hey Kal El! Thanks you pal, yes, nailing your style is all about refining and refining, and then experimanting, and refining and refining again. Glad you're enjoying the tread, I hope it continues to make you smile! Cheers!
So, here’s a quick concept of Teron from MOON! as RACE MADLY, his “acclaimed” on-screen persona. Regular Blinkers will spot that this is Collect-a-Sketch number 10, BEFORE we’ve had Collect-a-Sketch number 9! Has the world gone MAD?!!! Well, no, it’s just number 9 is taking a little while to clean, but it’s on it’s way, peeps!
Next up, a pic of a curly-haired cutie in a yellow dress because…well, do I need a reason to draw curly-haired cuties in yellow dresses?! Haha! No, exactly!
More in Neu-Yoik-Minnut, as my Manhattan brethren would say!
Keep scribblin’, folks!

So…happy Monday morning, fellow Blinkers! The week stretches out ahead of us like a hiiiiighway of possibilities, and I hope you’re all gonna’ get some good scribbling done over the coming days!
First post today is a concept shot of Serenity in the cockpit of a mystery machine from Season 1 issue 2 of MOON! Work those levers, grrrrrl!
Next up, a little web flyer to let you know that the latest instalment of my brother’s fantastic column over at Comic World News is up. With the tragic loss last month of a comic book great, he decided to put on hold the previously advertised theme for this chapter, and instead has written about Mike and his wonderful Tellos series. Robin asked me to come up with a Tellos-themed illo to advertise the column, and of course I obliged as best I could. Go read it HERE (http://www.comicworldnews.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?column=fun) folks…

First up, another little teaser for the soon to be released Awesome anthology from Indie Spinner Rack…
Next, those regular Blinkers out there will remember that in the past I've produced a few tutorials on colouring and suchlike. While they were useful to a degree, colouring is far from being my strongest skill as an artist, and besides, they essentially taught techniques which can be found better explained elsewhere on the web. However, this thread was never meant to just be about show and tell, I always envisioned it as a place where you can come to hopefully get a new idea or two to take into your own work, and maybe even a little bit of inspiration/motivation to keep you at the drawing board when the TV/Pub/Hot Fox Next Door* are tempting you away from your creative endeavours. So, without further ado, I'd like to announce the forthcoming School of Blink, which I will run right here in the Thread, and which will hopefully become a library of tutorials and discussions on imagination, creativity and invention within the realm of comics creation, storytelling and concept art. I hope it will be of interest to some of you, and for those guys who already know it all, well, there'll be some pretty pictures! Whoip!
Lorenzo!
*There is absolutely NO garuntee that these tutorials will be more entertaining than an evening with that cutie next door.

Hmmm…lots of things today, let’s get on with ‘em, eh? First up, issue 4 of DreamWorks Tales is now on the newsstands here in the UK, and I thought I’d show you a little peek at the 6-pager Madagascar story I drew for it. Pencils, inks and colours by me, script and lettering by John Green and Jimmy Betancourt/Comicraft respectively. Go get a copy!
Next up, for those pencil heads among you, the line work from the Madagascar teaser pic I posted earlier in September.
Moving on, we have another teaser for the forth-coming return of One Night in the City. I knocked this one up in Biro while waiting for a load of my pages to render on our dusty ole’ G3s here in castle blink. And they say slow processors are a bad thing!
Finally, a lil’ web flyer to announce that we’ll be bringing all our Blinky bells and whistles to two rather fantastic conventions here in the UK this October, so if you wanna talk comic making, pick up some books, or some of our comic board for your own creations, or you just want a Lorenzo sketch, I hope you’ll be able to come along! Find out more about the Birmingham con HERE (http://www.thecomicsshow.co.uk/), and the London con HERE (http://www.londonexpo.com/). Be good to see you, peeps!

P.S. I was fortunate enough to get another Daily Deviation over on DeviantArt last week, and to celebrate I posted a little exclusive up just for the DA peoples. You can check it out HERE (http://studioblinktwice.deviantart.com/art/An-appology-and-a-Thank-you-66218847).

Just a little one here to let you know that we'll be launching the 11th MOON! Sketch book at the Birmingham International comic con this weekend. Produced in the mini-dimensions of all our recent sketch books, this one is three times longer than normal, with 32 pages of all my recent sketches, designs and web teasers. We are also for the first time bowing to demand and allowing you to buy the sketchbooks on their own (normally they're only available for free with TPB purchases). So, you can come and pick up this slice of Blink fun for just £3 each, or FREE with every £20 you spend, what a bargain! Limited numbered edition of just 150, with the first 50available at the Birmingham con, and the rest available at the London MCM expo the following week, then they're gone for good! Scroll back to my last post for more info on the shows and links to both show sites...!
Soooooo, first up today, another sneak-peek at the pencils from our B&W MOON! story for the Indie Spinner Rack AWESOME anthology, which will be in comic stores from 17th October! Yeah!
Then, another little webflyer to let you know the School of Blink is coming soon. I've had a phenomenal response to the original posting on the blog/in the forums about this new tute' feature, and I'm really excited about rocking into Semester 1!
Then, a lil' sketch I did for my buddies over on the mighty ConceptArt...
...and finally, a little experiment in the form of a tin for a fictional drinking den called the Monkey Bar...

So, what an awesome time we just had at the Birmingham con this weekend just gone! We cheerfully greeted a gazillion great peeps, chatted with old fans and regular Blinkers, met a whole new load of wonderful folks, and sent a LOT of people home with Blink Bags stuffed with Malcolm books, MOON! Space Logs and BT Comic Board! YEAH! Feel like you missed out? Well, have no fear, we'll be doing it all again THIS weekend (20th - 21st Oct) at the mighty London MCM Expo! The limited Edition 11th MOON! Sketchbooks we took to Brum flew off the ole' Blink stand at quite a pace, and if you haven't yet bagged a copy, your last chance is THIS WEEKEND at the London con! Be there, of miss 'em, folks!

Lorenzo - Did you get my PM in regards to the "Ask a Pro!" thing?
Thanks,

I just finished reading "MOON! Series Companion" and have to say you guys have created a very unique and original story idea. At first I was drawn to MOON! because of the artwork and the idea about studios traveling through space. After reading this I lost count of the amount of times I laughed. (I ran out of fingers and toes) First the exaggerated time that all this occurs is great. The satirical look at the movie industry is very funny, I liked the descriptions of the different studios. The vehicle and environment descriptions are very well thought out. Oh I need to mention the main characters... Ratt and Teron seem like good choices to navigate through this universe wrought with danger, suspense, crag, info boxes and loads of laughs! Can't wait till you guys start the series... I need more swag! :D

Yes, we hope it will be a really enjoyable adventure, and lord knows we've put in the prep! Stay tuned, news of further releases and of course the eventual series launch will be announced in here as it happens! Cheers!
So, what have I got for you today? Well, let’s start with some more sketches from the recent conventions we attended, here you’ll see some of the sketches I only got photos of, including a Madagascar one, and a pic of Bigfoot from our story in the Viper anthology. I drew quite a few of those penguins this weekend I can tell ya'!
Following that, another sketch at better quality, with a little bit of Photoshop colours 'cos I felt like it!
Next a lil' picce I scribbled up in a bar a few weeks back at the first of the new monthly sketch-booze meets with a load of cool CA peeps. The incredibly bendy Fran "Lefren" Franster scanned this bad-boy in for me, so thank you sweetie! Next meet is on the 8th Nov, see you there, peeps!
Finally, Bobby just had a Birthday! It was a rather good one in terms of all things Blinky actually, as we will hopefully be able to tell you all soonish. In the meantime, here's Mugg to say happy birthday to my amazing brother!

Wow. Great that you're so busy.
I think this is the first time I've seen this thread, but after meeting you guys in Birmingham and reading your 'Sasquatch' story (great Tigger moment!) I thought it would be rude not to check in.
Brilliant thread. So with all the Dreamworks stuff, does that put Moon on hiatus? And how many hotrods can you fit into Madagascar?

Oh. You're not gonna reply to this if you're stopping checking in on forums.
