View Full Version : Writer Dilemma!!

I’ve just jumped back into the writing game after a few years of hiatus. I’m working on my first proposal and have already completed a rough draft of a script and part of a synopsis. Unfortunately, I feel that the conflicts are too subtle, the page count is too high (it calls for the book to be 24 pages), and the series is 3 books long.

However, I have already thought about major rewrites in the script that, in my opinion, would make the script better. Right now, I’m thinking of possibly making the page count 22 and increasing the series to 4 books.

I was wondering, should I go ahead and complete the final draft of the script, finish my synopsis, send off the proposal, and then rework the script or should I just rework the script now?

By the way, I’m looking to submit the proposal to just Dark Horse and Antarctic Press for right now.

Also, what size font do you create your scripts in: 10 or 12?

Rework the script now and then send it. They will want to see your best work, not a rough draft.

I use 12 point.

Ditto to what Trey said.

Rework the script to how you think is best and then send it. It would be crazy to do otherwise.

I know that magazines demand their submissions be in 12 point for the sake of thier editor's eyes. I always use 12 point.

Thanks for the replies.

I knew I would end up rewriting the script. I knew it when I started thinking about its faults and how to rework it. I guess I didn’t want to face up to reality since I was almost done with the proposal.

A few years ago, when I was trying to get a comic published, I believe I was using 10 point, but Word defaults to 12 and a writing school does critiques and mentions the 12 point size, so I wasn’t sure.

Thanks for the information. Back to work I go…

Good advice your getting.

A simple rule of thumb: when in doubt re-write.

And I think it's standard in pretty much all writing submissions (mag, film script, newspaper, etc..) to use 12 point.
