Hey there

Been quite some time since I posted any inks here (yikes! 3 MONTHS, a quick search tells me!). I have been inking, but like the last time, nothing I can show here really. Except this (http://uggabugga.net/asj41/chapters/index.htm), scroll down to Episode 11 and then go to page 5. Probably my worst work to date, but the colorist really saved my ass.

Anyways, here's something done for fun/portfolio. I got this from Waki (thanks dude!) along with a few other pages.

Obviously this isn't a full page, just panel 1. I doubt I'll finish it soon, what with other (web-published) stuff that needs doing. But I wanted to show some stuff to you guys.

as always, critques and comments are welcome.

buff up the line weight on his cape (it's weak on the left side of the image, and on the right side, it's almost impossible to tell it apart from the clouds), then fix that stray line on the left side of the image (it's just a construction line, you need to learn as an inker when to stop and when to go on ;) But you're coming along great, IMO.

Buff what line weight? Remove what construction line? I think it looks just fine :whistlin:

Break up the cloud lines a bit more and that overlapping set of lines on the righthand side of the panel ;)

Maybe use a heavier outline on Supes, I would've pushed the dynamics of the linweight change a bit.

Yeah, that came a bit too late for you fine folks to order it, but I only just found out myself.
It got a neat pin-up drawn by Paradox and inked by yours truly!

Jimmy: Thanks a lot dude. I'll definitely remember that advice, I wasn't totally happy with the clouds.

Artsta: Mouse? No no, dude I use a computer. ;) Thanks a lot, bro.

Josh: Thanks, dude.

Rose: Huh, what, where? *hides*

Jobberstable: Thanks.

Karni: Thank you, dude.

Mecha: You should've seen the first outline I had on Supes, before Mark told me to change it. Ugh. Clouds need breaking, got it.

Boy: Wow! That's totally awesome! I'll buy like a gazillion copies!

Rotin: Ha. You should see the stuff I've been working on and not being allowed to post. Generally more complex than this. Right now I'm working on a 6 page thing pencilled by Dismas, which is pretty detailed.

Howdy,
im not on often but came across this and wanted to put in my two cents worth. What Mecha said about better lineweight is very true. His cheek bone and eye area gets lost. Same with the folding of the cape. With you varing your line weight your showing better where the light source is coming from and give it a more 3D feel. Also Make sure you do not just "black" in areas. Around his neck and the bottom left shoulder. There was a good opportunity to add some feathering/texture to the piece. That is a huge pet peeve for pencilers but sometimes it very hard to know that they wanted that squiggle line in or if its just a squiggle. As far as the clouds and birds....make the line weight as a whole be thinner to the figure to show depth like others have said. Great start with the computer. You designed the figure very well. Sorry but I don't think doing this on the computer is "digital inking" But thats cause im old school. Keep it up!

Maybe a little creative hatching on the clouds can make them stand away from Supes more, since there's really none on him.

Nice pic, Splash. But I don't think there's any color love for this pic. I posted my colors on it in the colorist showcase, 100 views to date, and no comments. Even yours I see has about 24 views and no comments.

Austin: Thanks. I know I need to work on my lineweights. To be perfectly honest with you, I think that thing on his shoulder was intended to be blacked in. I even tried not doing it, but it didn't look very good. But if I had the opportunity to ask the penciler about that bit, I would've.

Chrome: I think the suggestion about breaking the lines would work just fine. And the clouds are supposed to be further away than Superman, and adding detail pushes something to the foreground.

Splash: Them's some sweet colors.

Bio: Yours weren't bad either ;)

Your right Bio, and I didn't realize anyone else had tried to color this piece! Nice job BTW.

Thanks BOY, those were some sweet lines as well.
