It's all beginning now a few days early because I'm going out to town this weekend and all the reference is available now.
Group 2 is
cuzz85, Doomsmith, Grimspeare, jobberstable, Matt the Greek, MaxMayhem, pencilartist, Propsdue, Scaleyinx, The Bionic Cl@m
From this group 5 will move into the Round 2 of the main tournament bracket.
All the rest that are not no shows will move into the second tournament bracket next week.
This is a double elimination tournament but no shows don't get a second chance. All art show be posted in the the art thread. The art thread for this group is:
http://www.digitalwebbing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96389
Your subject for this week is Arak versus a lizard man.
Reference can be found as attachments below.
The art can be in any stage of completion and in any medium, but it has to be your art and it has to be in the art thread by the deadline.
The deadline is 19 August 2006 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time (currently GMT-4).
If your art is not in the thread by that time, you will be considered a no show.
If your art changes after that time, you will be considered a no show.
If your art post is edited at that time, you will be considered a no show.
The subject can be interpreted as loosely (within reason) as you wish. If I'm vague, it's purposely vague. However if when reference is provided that should be the reference used.
For this round I will not be providing reference for the lizard man.
Have fun.

Arak is a Native America (Indian) character from DC Comics. He had a series that lasted for 50 issues and 1 annual. For a while (5-6 issues) he sported a mohawk.

Oddly enough I think I have a copy of the first issue tucked away in a box somewhere. I didn't think anyone else knew about Arak but me.

Best of luck to you all!
And thanks Jamal for all your hard work on this. Although I gather you really enjoyed doing every bit of it, since the plan all along has been to bring your post count up.

If you guys look at the face in my drawing, that's warpaint. I was trying to find the tribe he was raised by, but I think it's fictional. Anyway, that's a handprint.

Question...
If I post a pencil drawing and then later edit my post and change it to an ink version or maybe even a colored version,...will I qualify as long as I make the changes before the deadline?

Jobberstable, way to go first post'er for our group!
And I must say, that's one hella LARGE lizard man! :w00t: I love the expression on Arak's face. He looks like he's thinking "EWWWwwwwWWW!!! Nasty! Check out this green blood! "

As long as the final changes are made before the deadline it's all good.

I did my best being out of practice for such a long time.
MAN! It feels good to get back into the flow.
My wife really liked this picture and that's all that counts to me, but I hope others in this draw off like it to.
Oh! what do you mean you don't remember me. ( just kidding) :D

I updated mine, but I'm not much of a colorist.
Anybody know why my pictures keep getting blurry when I save them in Illustrator?

Scaleyinx, nice post. Very vivid imagery. I'm not sure about his pectorals, though, but that could be just me.

Hey thanks!
Funky pectorals, ya think?,...Yep, you're probably right. It's been almost two years since I've had to draw a muscle bound male. I think my lack of practice is showing  Nevertheless, I had fun drawing him.

Two years since you've been with a musclebound male?!?! Poor girl! :p
Nice pic, Scaleyinx. I think the pectorals looked pretty good actually. Not every man muscles up the same. What struck me was the daintiness of his forearms compared to the rest of him. Especially considering the constant use of hand weapons, you'd think he'd be beefier through the forearm. Good stuff, though. Really a dynamic shot.

Actually, my hubby modeled the arms for me. He use to a be wrestler! :w00t: But he has since let himself go. He's not quite the musclebound hulk he use to be. Granted he still has his 54 inch chest, but it seems his bulbous muscles have deflated :p . I'll let him know he needs to step it up and beef up his forearms so he doesn't make my hulky males look like wussies. :har:
Thanks for the compliments!

Try saving them as a .pdf, then opening the pic in photoshop, flatten it and save it as a .jpeg
Other than that ya got me!

You may have your output settings on lo-rez - when you select Save_As you'll get a popup screen once you decide what filetype you want (.pdf, .jpg, .eps etc). Somewhere on this screen you should be able to adjust the resolution of the file you save out, depending on what format you choose. Otherwise check yr Output Options in the File menu of Illustrator, it might be set low as a default.
Nice to see everyone stepping up for the first round.
Draw, pilgrims!

Propsdue was totally whoppin' my ass,... and everyone else's entries are looking mighty awesome, ...so I figured I had to try and do something to make my entry worthy.
Killed my neck and fingers coloring this though, ....'cuz I'm the slowest colorist ever!
