It's all beginning now a few days early because I'm going out to town this weekend and all the reference is available now.
Group 10 is
Artsta, deanlegion, Great Scott, LynnDavid, managuan, NGoff, npittara, Rothart, SethNI, zer0cool
From this group 5 will move into the Round 2 of the main tournament bracket.
All the rest that are not no shows will move into the second tournament bracket next week.
This is a double elimination tournament but no shows don't get a second chance. All art show be posted in the the art thread. The art thread for this group is:
http://www.digitalwebbing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96398
Your subject for this week is Claw versus a lizard man.
Reference can be found as attachments below.
The art can be in any stage of completion and in any medium, but it has to be your art and it has to be in the art thread by the deadline.
The deadline is 19 August 2006 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time (currently GMT-4).
If your art is not in the thread by that time, you will be considered a no show.
If your art changes after that time, you will be considered a no show.
If your art post is edited at that time, you will be considered a no show.
The subject can be interpreted as loosely (within reason) as you wish. If I'm vague, it's purposely vague. However if when reference is provided that should be the reference used.
For this round I will not be providing reference for the lizard man.
Have fun.

Claw is a DC Comics character that has recently been brought back at Wildstorm. For the purposes of this draw-off either version is fine. The distinctive feature of Claw is his claw like right hand. In the older series, it was always hidden under the glove. Now he has chosen to no longer hide it.

You must have a thing for lizard men...
Good luck group!

Nope, the lizard man was thrown in to insure that the drawing would be new. Anyone could have taken a Conan drawing and made it into anyone of the characters this week, but the chance that you have Conan fighting a Lizard man lowers those chances :D
There will always be a modifier to force everyone to produce new work and not showcase older work.

Looks like everyone is drawing Conan from a alternate universe....
Anyways, I don't know what Lizard Man you're talking about... Do you mean the Lizard Man from Spiderman or The Lizard from Batman, or some other Lizard man??

I just don't have time for the contest...too many commissions lined up, and i gotta work on an 8 page pitch. Here's my marker comp that I'm submitting as my entry.

If your art changes after that time, you will be considered a no show.
That should be for every type of Draw-off, eh?

question... if i were to draw this as a 1 page sequential would that be acceptable? since the rules don't state whether or not it is...

Well just about finished mine, this whole drawing thing is a lot harder than it looks! ;)
I'll scan it in tomorrow. It took me ages to think of some kind of lizard man design and although I'm happy with what I got, I don't think I pulled it off well enough! Well, you can all comment when I post it up tomorrow sometime!

I've done lots of sketches, and seem to be happy with one particular idea, so I'll be finishing it off soon.

Just posted it now.
Yikes, I tell you, I wasn't sure if I should of added colour or not, but I had some spare time. Overall, I am not happy about mine. It took me too long to settle on a lizard guy I could draw, and I barely managed that. I do like the lizard man though, I like his face. The only bit I am happy with! I need A LOT more drawing practice! The rest was rushed, but I am glad I got an entry in on time, so at least I am able to have another go!

I turned a sketch into a Photoshop painting. Overall, I'm happy with it, but it seems like this is going to be a tough competition, which is a good thing!

Thanks, sevans! I always get stomped toward the end of the Draw-off. I'm almost always one the first to get done. Maybe that's my problem. :man:

How do I post my image? The FAQ says to use the browse button to navigate to the image, but I can find no such feature.

Nicole, I knew you would be the one to watch out for in this group. GREAT entry there my friend. Having Claw wear the skin of one of the lizard people was a nice touch.
