However you'll make into the second tier unlike the no shows, so there is still hope.

Thanks fellas. I liked Cinam's style myself. It's really different, I hope to see some more of it in the later rounds. But everbody did a great job - and I my be biased but I think our group was one of the strongest.

Nice work EthanWright, very tight pencils and the coloured pic was a nice extra.

...and I'd have to say that I really like the energy that came through on Manji's artwork.

I spent the morning reflecting on my work and where it was weak. After looking at all the Vs Lizardman entries I noticed some things that seemed consistent throughout the selection of the ones I liked.

1) Good facial expressions...
2) Points of contact...things are already happening...
3) More darks
4) More textures


So I tried to include these ideas into another composition.

I had fun drawing my entry, but I think the only reason to do this stuff is to learn. So let me ask you: Is this a better composition?

yeah there should be a tournament, where groups face each others teams. blue vs red team. like ultimate fighter t.v. show. the total points for the entire team. as said before we where the strongerest group.

Wow Ethan you're so far in front I can only see a dot in the horizon. Good job you got my vote very nice piece. When I was posting my entry and saw yours I was having second thoughts, but then I remembered why I entered in the first place not to see how good I was compared to others but to see my faults and therefore improve myself. You all did a great job and and all had something I wish I had put into my piece.
My compliments to all of you guys. Group 8 rocks!!!

Sketches - Yes I like the second composition better.

thanks rogue! I'm in it for the same reason you are, to hopefully improve.

Sketches - I personally think your first piece had a stronger composition. The angle of the two figures gave the piece some energy, and the background was balancing the rest out. Sure, you could have done it differently by including more darks , textures, like you said, but that really doesn't have anything to do with your composition. I think if you added some color, or tone with an inkwash or some graphite shading you could make your composition stronger.

I think the composition on the other one is better. Since I didn't vote for yours (but did for five) let me tell you why it didn't make my cut:

I thought the heavy outlining around the figures (especially the lizardman's claws) was distracting.

The lizardman's right forearm doesn't seem to connect to his body properly (part of this is probably because of the cropping of the piece but I can't figure out how it would connect to his shoulder)

Have to say I agreed with the majority as ethanwright's was my favorite. A lot of interesting offerings here though. Good luck to all of you who aren't ethanwright. Given the votes, he doesn't need the luck at this point.

Just a quick note.
Despite what the poll state all voting closes at 11:59:59 Eastern TONIGHT!
Round 2 will start then. There will be some changes to the voting time in Round 2 so that Round 3 will start BEFORE the weekend of September 9 and 10 (Baltimore Comicon).

ROUND 2 begins as soon as I get all the threads posted early tomorrow morning.
