Hello again. Seems like for ever since I last came here, hope you're all well.
Thought I'd stop by and show some new stuff. Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Duane

hot stuff! have any seqential?

Thanks Tmac. Yeah, I have sequentials. It was all I did. I took a bit of time out from them recently to iron out some creases, and try to learn to colour. Here's a few thumbnails.

Very nice, the second image is the standout of the bunch for me.

I'm a huge Warhammer 40K fan! These are great! Do you play 4oK?

Whoa! You worked for 2000 AD? Respect.

A 2000ad artist the comic that started my drawing and ruined my life. :) Love the colour work. The city one stands out for me as i have a thing for city scapes and the rest are spot on aswell.

Amazing stuff, man. The painted pics, particularly. Hope to see more.

Cheers Wozlok, glad you like the second one that took me for ever. I usually flip stuff over in PhotoShop to give myself a fresh look at what I’m doing. For some reason that one just looks off balance the other way around. Seems to work OK the way I drew it though.
Bark4, my head is hung in shame. I don’t play, to be honest I live in the middle of no where. I have no one to fight, but I have always loved the images that come from that company. They’re probably part way responsible for me wanting to draw in the first place. I sent the two 40k pics off to them this week along with this tank…
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/DRed01/tank.jpg
Thanks Hannu, I have had stuff printed in 2000AD, but not enough to call myself a 2000AD artist. The pages up there are all submissions. After I sent the Stront stuff in I was told I could ink my next story for them. That was a while ago now, there’s just too many artists out there to fit them all into one weekly comic it seems.
Ha ha, ditto Mitze. That top one was done for a job application for a concept artist’s job. It was a 40-hour test. I think it took about 30. I passed the test but somehow didn’t get the job…. Little bit gutted about that ‘cause it would have been a cool job. I’ve been looking through some of your work and my cap is doffed. Very nice stuff. I do all my pencilling on photocopier paper too. Just can’t afford Bristle board any more. I stick a bit of backing board between my drawing hand and the paper. Cuts down on a lot of buckling.
Cheers quones, I recognise you’re sig from some where. Could it be the Ronin boards?

Nah, never been there. DeviantArt?
Actually, it might be from here. That would make me quite silly.
Errrr.... nice tank!

Damn dude! Those first couple, and the Land Raider at the end, are absolutely stunning! Certainly better than a lot of the 40K art out there (had a glance through their Art Book the other week), I'd be surprised if they didn't pick 'em up. Maybe it'd be worth working on your own concepts rather than using 2000AD properties - you certainly have some fantastic skills (and your sequential style is nice and varied), might be easier to get a gig when you're not doing exactly the same thing as every other submitter. Just a thought.

 I don't go to deviant art. I think you're right. It must be from here. I think the last time I posted was back in May some time.
Thanks Matt, I hope you're right about the Warhammer stuff. I could do with the work.
Thanks again everyone, you're all being very kind. Feel free to rip into this stuff if you want to though. I'm pretty thick skinned. :)

Wow!!!!
I want you to color for me!!!
Did you do the illustration as well?
D.red

Ha ha, cheers Hannu. It's nice to know someone regards me as one of the good ones.
Sounds like I did my job right hithereeveryone. Shame it didn't lead to employment.
Thanks SageGod, yeah, I did the illustrations too. Here's what the pencils looked like for the tyranid. Next time I think I'll draw in the back ground, or at least suggest one. It would have saved me a lot of time at the painting stage. I guess I was just too eager to colour it.

I concur with what everyone has said here – your work is superb. I like the color stuff a lot but it was the comic pages that turned my head. You have a great knack for visual storytelling and character placement.

Dude!! I can say you are really master of color!! Everything looks great!!! Very dark, atmospheric, moody. It seems like you're having real fun with the software. What software did you use? Photoshop Adobe or Paintshop Pro?
For me, the cityscape really stand out! the composition, the distance.
Well, I give you much props for these!!! :kewl:

Try applying for storyboard teller, or concept/character design for game company instead if you hit the wall with comic company

Thanks again everyone.
It's all coloured using photoshop cs.
I have just started to try and broaden my horizons so to speak by sending stuff to other kinds of companies. The first picture was a test I was set after applying for a job as a concept artist. I passed the test but I was let down by my folder. I've got a lot of work to do to fill that out. At the time it was all comic work and sketches.
I've just been working on a new greyscale piece for a friend; I've been looking at it so long I could probably do with some second opinions.
Cheers,
Duane.

sorry to re-vamp this old thread, but it seemed right.
Something actually worked out from the submissions I sent out. (Between you and me it was what I was hoping for). I got some work with Games workshop. They found some room for me in their new Inquisitor codex. It was so cool to draw for someone who inspired me to draw in the first place. They have such awesome artists working for them... I’m a long way from being their equal but it was so nice to see my work along side theirs..... I don't think I'll even need coffee tomorrow :)
Sorry it took so long to show these. I had to wait until they were printed. I hope you like the pictures.

Good stuff, man. Keep them coming!
Cool to see your newer work Duane... You should stop by sometime and check some of the new stuff that we have going on at the site. You're always welcome.

Cheers Jeffbot.
Stonedog- Yeah most of this stuff is up at concept art in various places.
I'm glad you like my stuff. This last one didn't go down too well at GW though. Marine design asside I thought I'd nailed the colouring. I need to aprouch things from a more painterly perspective I think. I'll post the next pic as soon as I've figured it out. :har:
Thanks again,
All the best,
Duane.
