View Full Version : New Draw-Off Format

Starting with the tournament (and continuing beyond), there will be a new draw-off. This format is to make things easier for me (your draw-off moderator). Each Draw-Off will begin with 2 threads. All active threads for active draw-offs will be sticky threads. One thread will be for discussions and one for art. When the deadline has passed the art thread will become the poll thread. Once the poll has been posted no more art should be posted to the thread and the previous discussion thread will be closed(and unstickied). All remaining discussion should take place in the poll thread. Polls will be active and sticky for 7 days. After that point, they will be unstickied.
So as an overview ...
1 discussion thread
1 art thread (only finished art should be posted in the art thread).
The art thread becomes the poll thread.
When the art thread becomes the poll thread the discussion thread is closed and all discussion moves to the poll thread.
All open threads for active draw-offs will be sticky. The rest will not be.
Why? Because this makes my life easier.
Feel free to discuss the new format until I close this thread :D

There's a lot of threads in that sentence!
But I understand...

Why not just make one thread per draw off, and if it's active just make it sticky. No one is going to stick to this. They'll still discuss the draw-off in the art thread, as opposed to the discussion thread, because they'll want to comment on the art posted.
I get what your saying and yes in idea that would make it all easier...but no one will stick to it.
sounds like a plan to me boss :)

Of course, they wil because I will simply move discussion posts where they belong. Splitting and merging threads is easy. Searching through threads for the art is a pain in the ass. If the art isn't in the correct place, then it won't be considered for the vote.
Why must you be so negative all the time?

There are other forums where draw-offs are successfully run exactly as Jamal is describing. Hit Ten Ton Studios (http://www.tentonstudios.com) and check out their draw-offs...the format and the results kick ass.

I'm sorry man, if I came off as negative. I wasn't trying to. I was just trying to bring up possible scenarios you may not have considered at the time, to help out is all. No need to get pissy about it. Do it whatever way you want, I don't give a shit either way, I just wanna draw. :)
Speaking of which, can I make a request.
Can we get another draw-off going while we wait on the tournament. I understand some people may just not have the time for more than one-draw off at a time, but some of us work faster than others, and are looking for something to do other than drawing sequentials all the time.
Maybe we can have like two draw-offs a week or something and if someone can't participate then they can't, or if someone can do both than cool, or if someone can only do one then they just have to choose which one. Once again I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to help.

Starting with the tournament there will be one draw-off a week. However, with the tournament preparations I don't have time.

now when the art thread becomes the poll thread you do still move all the entries to the top of the thread for easy voting right?

Aren't we full of our own drawing prowess? Cripes man, if yer that good and yer that fast, how is it you hang out here with us wannabes instead of taking Marvel by storm? Oh, wait, must be you looking for something other than sequentials to do. :p  :nyah:

Nope. All the art should be the top posts of the threads

so they're not all gonna be in the first post of the thread like before? cause i think that was good for the old format and may be helpful in this one....

It makes no different if it's all in one post or in multiple posts, you still have to scroll. This way each post will be attributed to the correct poster and there is no extra work for anyone.

So, just to get this straight, are we posting our DC Zombies art in our respective groups? Or will it start with the Wulf/Lizard Man contest?

The current draw-offs are for the tournament. The tournament required a sign-up and will run about 2 months. As more get eliminated from the tournament, other draw-offs will begin.

No.. the tournament last 2 months.
As people get eliminated there will be other draw-offs. Those will probably start at the end of September.

If someone enters a sketch and then replaces it with a finished drawing, how does the affect the entry?
L Jamal

It doesn't matter as long as it is before the deadline.
