I have an idea for a series. The story starts some time in the future. The earth is ruled by aliens wich treat humans as pets. The main character is a man who believes he is a simple stray. That is untill the truth of his past of being a human guienea pig starts to resurface. With the help of a friend he gains the ability to time travel and destroy the technology that allowed the aliens to take over. The main hook of the story is that the aliens have always been here in disguise, so the hero must stay undercover while he finds the technology. I am going to write it so to stay hidden he will have to witness even participate in some of the worst events of human history (the worst things you can think of he will be on the wrong side). This way while the character is trying to save the human race he is destroying himself. I know a few plot holes but I would like some feedback on the overall idea.

Thanx
chris

Sounds like an interesting premise.

Some people may disagree with me but in Sci Fi there should be an aspect of the story that challenges something we hold as truth. Not necessarily just truths like we are alone ni the universe, but overall truths like murdering sentient beings is bad. Consider Speaker for the Dead.

I'm going to suggest some stories that follow similar themes or that your theme simply brings to mind and recomend you read them if you haven't already. Consider this process like researching a paper, it's not stealing you're seeing what other people are saying about a topic and then you're going to say what you feel in your story.

Try:
Battlefield Earth
Ender's Game/Speaker for the Dead
The God's themselves (Issac Asimov)
I, Robot (same)

Like I said I didn't want to just give you books with the same premise but with interesting themes that your premise brings to mind. Good luck, now go and make us long to read your words!
