I REALLY like the look of this book, but its just falling a little short of sealing the deal for me at the moment. I have the same issue with this that I had with the last preview. Their is just no drama to the action at all. The gun fire is just a POW sound effect. Those old flintlocks caused quite a little blast. i want to see those guns spitting orange fire. Using the flash as a secondary light source, the contrast would really cut through that murkyness which makes the book so eerie. I think a couple effects could really bring the pages to life. I am by no means a colorist and I dont have my wacom here at work. But I did a quick little addition to one of the panels to show you what I mean

i absolutely love the mix of history and the supernatural in this. as a stickler for historical detail, however, i can't help but notice that he fires seven shots with four flintlocks. maybe there's something magical about the guns too? (I'm honestly asking) ~ it's possible that some reloading went on while they were talking, but we don't see it. the last shot, again comes from out of nowhere (did they switch guns again?). if there is loading going on, the continuity is wonky.
i pick on this because loading was such an ornery process and i sorta feel it's being glossed for the sake of the story flow. this is why men relied on the bayonet and Napoleonic tactics during the revolution. guns were wildly inaccurate except at close range, and pretty much only worth one (maybe two) shots before hand-to-hand was necessary. the technology wouldn't see any real improvement until the Civil War.
i'm still very excited about the book ~ just things like that can really throw you out of the story. i've seen other people do it (Rose & Isabel with their bows and arrows comes to mind), but from what little i've seen of your preview, it doesn't seem like the "permission" has been set up for incongruity at this level.
and now i'm blithering, so i'll stop.

Jimmybot,
Great point. I think your addition to the page made it pop more.
Something to think about, Ed and crew.
