PANEL 1

A large mob walks through the city’s sidewalks. They all look the same. Even though they all dress, walk, and talk differently. They have the same expression in their faces. They look forward. They don’t care. Even everybody is in contact with each other, they don’t know the people next to them. They are all bumping each other shoulders. They all seem grey, and dull. Even the ones that are smiling. All except one:

Meet Ray Hembeck. Fifty year old, jobless, chubby, and balding. He’s walking against the crowd, opening the way. He wants to get somewhere. We are looking at this spectacle from the above, getting a perfect view of his bold spot. Ray is looking towards us. He is wearing a dirty shirt, along with an ugly tie, and worn out trousers. A strange looking shadow can be seen among the mob. It seems to belong to a man, with wings, which is flying above them. Only Ray cares enough to look upwards.

RAY CAPTION: It’s six thirty in the morning. It’s a Wednesday. It’s summer.

PANEL 2

We go into the sidewalk, next to Ray. Now we can see why he’s staring towards the sky: it’s blue, clear, and sunny, yet there’s a bolt of lighting traveling through the panel. It is probably following the man with wings. We’ll learn soon enough. Nobody else is looking towards it. They’re ignoring it. Ray, however, is panicking. He’s following it.

RAY CAPTION: And there’s a bolt of lighting in the sky.

RAY CAPTION: Nobody seems to mind.

PANEL 3

We get a better view of the event going on over these people’s heads. The bolt of lighting, is actually coming out of somebody’s hand. That somebody is actually dressed as a monk (complete with the haircut), and wears a small mask, that covers his face. He is persecuting a man with huge, fly-like wings, green skin, and antennae.

The first man dubs himself Thunder-Monk, and he’s a superhero. He wears a traditional, brownish robe, with a slight opening in the chest –revealing an, oh surprise, thunder tattoo. His logo. He is wearing humble-looking sandals, and seems twenty-something years old.

The second man is Superfly, and he is wearing nothing than a pair of jeans, and snickers. His skin is greenish, and rough-looking. His eyes are red, and his long blonde hair reaches his back. He would’ve been an attractive looking human- but he’s a monster, so ha. His wings resemble ones from a fly. He’s the villain.

Under them, the swarm of working men, and women traveling through the city is almost undistinguishable.

RAY CAPTION: This world is going straight to hell. We’re oh-so-very damned.

RAY CAPTION: And the so-called “guardians”… these beings… that are supposed to protect us from all harm...

PANEL 4

Superfly gets struck by lightning, and screams in pain. He starts to descend.

SUPERFLY: Gaaah!

RAY CAPTION: … they are leading the way.

PANEL 5

Superfly crashes into one of the windows of the many skyscrapers around him. Glass flies all over, accompanied with some electricity remaining from the blast.

PANEL 6

Thunder-Monk floats into the panel, with a grin in his face. He has a ball of lightning forming in his right hand. We know what happens next.

RAY CAPTION: Who are they? Who are these people who claim control over my destiny? Over my life?

SUPERFLY (Off-Panel, from inside the building, and in small lettering): Bzzztard… yeee… bzzztard…

PANEL 7

A powerful, blue light comes from inside the building. We can imagine what’s happening inside. If you can’t, well… Superfly is being roasted, by a very angry monk.

RAY CAPTION: Who gave them the right?

PANEL 8

A small panel, showing Ray, looking upwards, towards the reader. The blue light is reflected in his eye. He is terrified.

PAGE TWO: THE PANELS SHOWING THE TV PROGRAM SHOULD HAVE THE SHAPE OF A TV. THE CAPTIONS CAN GO ABOVE EACH PANEL.

PANEL 1

We are watching TV. It’s a News In Tights show, about the local superheroes. Right now, we are watching the segment “Know Your Heroes,” some kind of power-ranking for the “saviors” of New York. Everything is supposed to be shiny, and beautiful. As if everybody loves them, except for Ray.

RAY CAPTION: Who are they?

The title of the segment appears against black:

"KNOW YOUR HEROES"

TV: … time for you to know which tights are hot this week… and which tights are not…

PANEL 2

We meet the host of the show: Edward Guinness (aka The Centurion), dressed in full costume. What costume? He has a centurion helmet, complete with the feather Mohawk, red cape, bronze armor, and black goggles. We get the feeling he isn’t really much of a legend-in-tights.

RAY CAPTION: Freaks. That’s what they are. They’re not humans. They are monsters.

TV: … with legend-in-tights himself: The Centurion.

TV: How you doing, Ed?

PANEL 3

The Centurion smiles, as an enlarged face is projected behind him. It’s a face we’ve seen before: we know him by the name of Thunder-Monk.

RAY CAPTION: Gods whom decided to come down and play with us lesser beings.

CENTURION: I’m doing mighty fine, Bob. But not as fine as these folk right here. If you don’t know who he is, let me refresh your memories…

PANEL 4

The background shifts, and we see a photograph of the monk, standing next to a roasted Superfly, lying dead on the ground. The hero is hugging two female employees, from the office he just made his foe crash into. The employees are smiling, exited, surprised, and nervous. The Centurion lowers his head, as if he’s saying something we aren’t supposed to hear.

RAY CAPTION: But when was the last time we were enjoying this little game?

CENTURION: … there? You remember Thunder-Monk, now? Well, you better, because he is our number five today.

CENTURION (in smaller lettering): … and if you’re wondering, that poor fellah burning over there is none other than Superfly…

PANEL 5

The background changes again, showing –in big, bold, multicolored letters- a “What?” behind the so-called legend-in-tights. The Centurion looks at a side of the panel, following the gimmick of the show, half-heartedly.

RAY CAPTION: At first it may have been amusing. It may have made us feel safe.

TV (Off-panel): What?!

PANEL 6

The background shows a headshot picture of an entirely new superhero, placed against a very-alive Superfly. The superhero dubs himself Admiral Claw, and dresses in an entirely black outfit, except for three stripes across his chest (one white, one blue, one red). His mask covers all of his face, and only features white eyes. He has claws. Duh. The headshots are separated by an arrow, which points downwards.

RAY CAPTION: Now, as every day goes by, I feel certain unease.

CENTURION: Yes, you heard it right here on News On Tights! The same rogue that our veteran Admiral Claw -our number 4 this week- has been trying to get these last months.

PANEL 7

The Centurion looks at the viewer, inquiringly, with his head resting on his huge hands. He looks ridiculous. On the background, we get full body pictures of this Admiral Claw. The first one is in black and white, and he appears fit, and strong –giving us a thumbs up. The other one… well, it’s in full-color, and shows us a completely different Claw. He seems old, and a bit unfit. And annoyed at the cameraman. Both pictures are accompanied with a convenient “Before,” and “Now” titles.

RAY CAPTION: When was the last time I saw a cop on the streets? The last time a fire was actually stopped by the firemen?

CENTURION: Is he getting old?

PANEL 8

We finally leave the television. We are inside an apartment that’s falling apart. The wallpaper is half-ripped off. The floor is full of dust. An unfinished five-hundred page manuscript is lying all over the place. A dust-filled bookshelf stands, imposing, full of old records, with whom the owner thinks he may be able to get money later on. This is, ladies and gentlemen, Ray’s apartment. And right now, Ray is turning the TV off.
He is sitting on a (used-to-be-now-kinda-grey) red sofa, with the stuffing coming out. He wears a dirty white t-shirt, with grease stains on it. He has just finished eating fried chicken.

RAY CAPTION: Since when do you need a costume to be able to help people?

TV: (Centurion, off-panel): … well, not old enough to stay out of our top five… nor is this guy… straight out of World War II, people. A blast from the--

PAGE THREE

PANEL 1

We get a full-body shot of Ray, sitting in the sofa, the TV off, staring at nothing. We are in front of him.

RAY CAPTION: Yes. It used to be amusing. It used to make me feel safe.

PANEL 2

We get a close-up to one of the papers that’s floating around the room. It’s the title page:

JUST LIKE A GOD
By Ray Hembeck

RAY CAPTION: Now I feel powerless. Impotent. Scared of the people who say that they are protecting me.

PANEL 3

Ray stands up, quickly, as if he has just gotten an idea.

RAY CAPTION: I’ve devised a plan.

PANEL 4

We go to a completely different scene. A group of soldiers is running up a hill, following the lead of a faceless figure, wearing a cape, and carrying the flag of the United States of America. The soldiers seem hopeful, optimistic, and trustful of the God-like figure that is leading them. The Caped crusader seems exactly like that. Like a God, carrying the American flag.

RAY CAPTION: We have relied on them for too long. We have let them save our people. Fight our wars. Become our weapons.

RAY CAPTION: And people are surprised it turned out this way?

PANEL 5

We go over to Russia, were a superhero, dressed in all red, and with the sign of Communism marked in his chest is shaking hands with a man that looks a lot like Stalin. They smile at us. Behind them, there is a painted portrait of Lenin, with Russian lettering accompanying it.

RAY CAPTION: Now the other countries have the same weapons that we do. And soon the weapons will have to fight each other.

PANEL 6

A close-up on Ray, from Panel 1, as he looks up to the sky, terrified.

RAY CAPTION: And as always, I’ll be the only one watching.

PANEL 7

It’s Earth, and almost half of it is exploding.

RAY CAPTION: The only one who cares.

RAY CAPTION: I’ve devised a plan.

PANEL 8

A number of objects are laid out in a worn out bed. There’s about three gallons of gasoline, stored in black metal containers, a paper mask of some kind of smiling devil, a trench-coat, a gun, and whatever you need to make a bomb. Ray’s shadow darkens the items.

RAY CAPTION: And it will not fail.

PAGE FOUR

PANEL 1

We go onto Ray’s point of view, as he walks through the streets. People, with empty expressions in their faces, walk past him. A few of them are glancing at him, discretely. He is wearing the trench-coat we saw laid out in his bed.

RAY CAPTION: I will show them that they are flawed. That they are not perfect. That they can be hurt.

RAY CAPTION: 180.

PANEL 2

A mother, dressed in black, carries her daughter by the hand. The daughter, about four years old, stares directly at us, curiously.

RAY CAPTION: How can they protect us… if they can’t even protect themselves?

PANEL 3

Now we see why: this panel depicts Ray walking in a side walk, wearing the mask we saw on his bed. Now we get a better look on what it’s like. It’s very colorful, with two horns coming out of the sides. It looks like one of those Aztec gods. It’s perpetually smiling. Ray has a hand inside his trench-coat.

RAY CAPTION: I’ll make them see the truth. I’ll make them look up the sky--

RAY CAPTION: --120 seconds--

PANEL 4

We return to Ray’s point of view. He has taken a gun from his trench-coat, and is pointing it at one of the older guys in the walking crowd. The man is surprised, scared. The other people are struggling to get out of the way.

RAY CAPTION: --and be terrified. Just like me. Everybody. The same as me.

PANEL 5

We go to one of the walls near-by. A war poster is pasted on it. It’s old, ragged, and has been discolored over the years. It shows a caped figure -with a thick moustache, silver tights, and a large U on his chest- accompanied with lettering that says: “He could use your help.” Blood splatters over the panel.

RAY CAPTION: Only 90 seconds more.

RAY CAPTION: I go for the older one. The one with the least number of years left. I’m so sorry.

PANEL 6
An overhead depiction of the sidewalk. The people are dispersing around the body, and Ray. Yet, nobody does anything. They are all looking towards the sky, waiting for someone to appear.

RAY CAPTION: But what other way is there? What better way? A few lives sacrificed for a better world.

RAY CAPTION: A few lives to open the eyes. To make them realize that these people are freaks. Perverts. Not national security.

PANEL 7

A long panel. Somebody has come to make Ray pay for the crime he has just committed. He’s falling from the sky. He’s dressed all in black. We’ve seen him before: he’s Admiral Claw. He can’t fly. Ray turns around, to face him. He knows that Claw is going to fall on top of him. In fact, that’s exactly what he wants.

RAY CAPTION: Not heroes.

RAY CAPTION: Not guardians, or protectors.

RAY CAPTION: 30 seconds left. Right on time.

PANEL 8

Claw lands on top of Ray, and pins him to the ground. Ray groans in pain.

RAY CAPTION: 15 and I feel the cold concrete behind my back. People cheer.

PAGE FIVE

PANEL 1

The same panel, except that Ray is smiling, with blood coming out of his mouth. The mask is lying somewhere near-by, it fell off when Claw fell on top of him. Claw seems surprised.

RAY CAPTION: 5 left, and the BEEP comes from the insides of my coat.

PANEL 2

We get into Ray’s eyes again, to see the Claw, his eyes widened. He is terrified. He is going to die.

RAY CAPTION: 1 second. And I get an unexpected bonus.

RAY CAPTION: Fear.

PANEL 3

A huge panel showing us an explosion. That’s Ray. This is supposed to be as stunning as possible. We are watching from the sky, as people (who look small) get blown away by the huge fire cloud, as other just get eaten by it. Admiral Claw is dead, and Ray has fulfilled his purpose.

RAY CAPTION: And after that, I save the world.

END CAPTION
THE END

Wow you have written a great amount of detail. I like the writing style, it is very tongue in cheek. But I do have some crits:

First, I think page one is too many panels for what you have in the panels. The first three panels look very large to me and will need more space.
PAGE ONE

PANEL 1

A large mob walks through the city’s sidewalks. They all look the same. Even though they all dress, walk, and talk differently. They have the same expression in their faces. They look forward. The bold sentences above don't make sense. If it is an above shot and he is looking at us, then we would not be able to see clearly his bald spot.

He would’ve been an attractive looking human- but he’s a monster, so ha.

What is the ha at the end of this sentence?

We are watching TV. It’s a News In Tights show, about the local superheroes. Right now, we are watching the segment “Know Your Heroes,” some kind of power-ranking for the “saviors” of New York. Everything is supposed to be shiny, and beautiful. As if everybody loves them, except for Ray.

Wait is the TV black with the segment? Then what is with the description above that? This part confused me.

CENTURION: I’m doing mighty fine, Bob. But not as fine as these folk right here. If you don’t know who he is, let me refresh your memories…

I think you want memory and not memories.

CENTURION (in smaller lettering): … and if you’re wondering, that poor fellah burning over there is none other than Superfly…

I don't think you need the ellipses there.

PANEL 7

It’s Earth, and almost half of it is exploding.

I have no clue where this came from. I am very confused by this panel.

RAY CAPTION: 180

I was confused with this at first, until I read more. You might want to put seconds after the 180, just to clear it up a bit.

Well, hope this helped. I really liked this. It was a very interesting script.
