This is from the cover of Infinite Crisis #6 by Jim Lee. The pencils are first and the inks I did are second. I was taking a break from penciling my Juggernaut entry (penciljack.com) and wanted to try something new.

I have never "hand" inked before except micro-pens with markers. So I picked up some higgins ink, some small brushes, and a caligraphy pen set(the one with multiple heads you can put on and take off). I had a low res 8.5x11 print out of this drawing laying around and I figured...why not try and ink it. The print was real fuzzy, but I can't complain really.

Three and a half hours later this is my result. C&C welcome.

Here is a fixed version. I am still stumped on what to do with the hand.

Thanks Jon

there are a couple different approaches you can do with the hand. one way is to put halos in where the finger lines are at and leave the rest solid black, or ink the finger lines and use crosshatching into black to do the shading. I think the second one would work better with the style of the piece IMO.

You'll see this elsewhere most likely, but I'm posting it here as well...

For the most part, it looks good. I would look at some line-variation (thin-to-thick) on the figure instead of the same linewidth.

Also, I might've given the foreground objects a heavier outline to set them firmly in the foreground plane-wise.

And watch the direction of the hatching, you can use it to add to the 3-Dness of the figure and the muscles...

Keep at it!

Much thanks! I will keep practicing and applying these helpful tips. They are very much appreciated and I have also been reading-up on some how to books.

On a side note here is what I used to do this with. I used a calligraphy pen(it was a set that came with 5 heads and I think I used the biggest one *blue tip*) and a small synthetic brissel brush...wait let me post a picture of it...It was my first time using any of this for inking. Matter of fact it is my first time using that calligraphy pen...
