This is a 95 page graphic novel I finished in July 2005. I was thinking about self publishing or finding a publisher but recently decided to just release the whole thing on my studio site. I had a blast writing and drawing it and thought I'd just release it for free to hopefully reach more people. here's the cover and 1st 5 pages.
I like to describe it as "Kill Bill meets Family Guy meets Itchy Scratchy meets Calvin & Hobbes"
I'd love to hear ANY comments/crits/initial impressions so far. especially if you don't like it and maybe why if you got a minute.
It's extremely violent, sadistic and silly...i have a twisted sense of humor, heh. but it's all in good fun. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy hearing everyone's opinons. thanks!

Very interesting rendering, I like it. The storytelling is a little confusing, though. I had to read it three times to understand what was going on (and I'm not entirely sure I got it). Is the guy beating up his self minded penis with a rock? That doesn't make any sense to me!

nate- thanks!
Ryan- thanks! your stuff rocks!!
caio- yeah, people seem to be confused. nope, not a penis, suppose to be a turtle dude punching a whole in a guy. I edited it and added some test colors I did a while back. I think it helps.
essentially the 95 page story is 1 massive fight or to be more specific, a bunch of showdowns that are all linked by the story which enravels (kinda slowly) but there is a method to all this madness.
thanks for the feedback, guys!

It's a strange thing to say, BUT I love the artwork even though I have no F8%K#N idea whats going on.
There are pages that I can 'read' clearly, but some I have no idea whats happening. The story telling isn't strong IMO - sorry.
Again love your demented, crazy style.

sevans- hmm...sorry bout that. I'm doing a lot of experimenting, trying to push things and I guess sometimes I go to far...essentially it's a dude pounding a turtle guy with a rock if that helps. but glad you dig the art, maybe the newer pages will be clearer, although there's a few here that I personally think are kinda confusing, heh.

Dynamic! Demented! Couldn't stop reading it! I also struggled in places to follow the action, but that seemed to do little to diminish my enjoyment.. in fact it probably just added to the sense of chaos about the whole thing. The colors don't help much either - it's just another layer of complexity which makes things even harder to read. I'd consider experimenting with some very simple colors, just to see how it looks.
Classic stuff on the whole though, I'll definitely be checking your website for the full story.

elcalabaza- thanks, man!!
Matt the Greek- thanks! glad you could enjoy it even thru some of the confusingness! I tried to design it so areas that I experimented more on and werent't sure would be clear wouldn't impact it too much. essentially every page is new joke/action type deal.
thanks for note about the color, I think you're the 1st person that didnt' think it helped, but I this is the kind of stuff I like hearing!

I love it. It sort of drives me nuts because I have to really look at everything to figure out some of the stuff because it's so abstract. I can't decide if I think that enhances it or if it detracts from it, but I'm leaning towards enhances. I think this would be an awesome book to buy if it was over-sized like those French albums. Then it wouldn't get too small for my eyes.
But all in all, I'm fascinated with it because the style is so inventive. Great job.

Loving your stuff Chris. If I get time I might try my hand at that pin-up contest you have going on at ten ton. I hope you do keep trying to find a publisher...its nice to have the hard copy.

cloves- thanks, man!!! I appreciate it!
ryan- thanks!! yeah, it is kinda confusing and might turn off some folks but I'm glad you're leaning more towards it being a good thing, I purposely tried to do it like that. I'm going to print up the book soon, so hopefully it'll be easier to look at. btw, your work is great!
Nick- thanks, man! I hope you do enter my contest, your stuff is great! I'd love to see your take on my characters. and not sure if you were clear on it, but the pin-up contest winners are going to be printed in the print version of the book.
