Here is an ink version of the Colossus. It was done in Illustrator. This is the first time I have used illustrator to "ink" something. I have only used it before for "graphic designs" and shirt designs. Any c&c would be very helpful and much oblidged. It took about 3-4 hours using brush tool and pen tool. The pencil version is in the Artist Showcase section.

It looks good except the line weights are all to similar and would lok alot more apealing if you simulated the brush stroke so it looks more "traditional".

Yeap need to vary your lineweights :) Digital isn't that reliable for lineweight and depth until you get a good amount of experience with it though. I know there's a couple of digital inkers on here that are really handy with this stuff, hopefully they'll pop in and give ya some more advice.

First thing you got to do is create a brush that gives better line weights. Create a brush that's gots some slat to it, I've got mine at about 110 degree angle and roundness at 70. Then set diameter and variation at 2 with pressure. This is all assuming you have a wacom tablet or something like it.

To make solid black shapes I use the pen tool set to fill with no stroke.

You guys are an awesome help! Great tips that I will keep in mind and start applying. Digital Iking is definately something I have to get use to and practice. It seems like a totally different world compared to using Illustrator as a design tool. Amazing.

Thanks again guys and keep the c&c coming if anything comes to mind.

Just a question: why ink on computer where you can ink better on paper? :har:

I look at it this way, 1) it is another tool you can add to your arsenal,2) digital inking,if learned how to use correctly and effectively can look as good as traditional inking, 3) saves on cost of purchasing boards, ink, brushes, quill pens ect ect ect 4) With all the printing and so forth being done practically through computers these days, it makes it alot easier dealing with the files because you don't have to go through messing scanning pages in and so forth, the file is already there and can be formatted any way you want it. I have been doing digital inking through photoshop for about 2 years now and think i am getting the hang of it. i dunno, check out my portfolio and tell me. And dubbery's settings are pretty darn close to what i would use so there is no point in posting more numbers and all that jazz. Just have fun with it and make it a cool learning experience.

The main reason for me choosing the digital route was speed. There are somethings, like a brick pattern or motion lines, that can be done much faster digitally. Also the crisp, clean vector lines are pretty. :D

I see it as another tool as well. In a game/character design class I took a few years ago our professor had us do the designs in traditional markers, ink, and paint where as many these days use computers. He like the computers as well, but said you learn alot in the traditional sense that you can apply later in the computer techniques which would make your computer generated designs better eventually from various experiences and understanding. One tool can basically help you use another tool.
