The mere phrase "Vampire Diva" is a winning pitch all by itself!
My immediate feeling is that the seven page sample doesn't show off all the potential of the concept. We see the vampire side of Eve, but we don't see her diva side. I think that may disappoint people hooked by the title. The "vampire as diva/diva as vampire" equation fits in with a lot of things we see in celebrity culture. Paris and Nicky Hilton are leeches who drain the money and life out of other people and apparently have no souls. The singing divas like Whitney and Mariah surround themselves with handlers and publicists and bodyguards to conceal serious problems that prevent them from relating to the real world like normal people. I get that Eve would be a far more sympathetic character than these, but given this title we should still see something "diva-esque" about her. Maybe if she had an entourage of money-grubbing hangers-on, be they vampiric or human...
Also, isn't "Eve appears to be an aging diva, who shows no signs of age" inherently a contradiction in terms?

I like it.
Hey - thanks for the crits. I think that's my biggest obstacle - showing more of the issue right now.
THe rest of the issue totally shows her "human" sife and dealing with her agent and diva issues - as well as some kick-butt action.
I think the 7 pager isn't enough to seel the sizzle yet - although there's some publisher interest.
I will work on the tag-line. "appears to be an aging diva - who doesn't age"
ANother hook in the book is how the Lte night talk show hosts treat her like Michael Jackson, Cher etc .. . in that she MUST have had countless plastic surgeries.
. . .and GOd forbid she walks out in the sunlight with an umbrella - that'll really get them talking.
I'm havin' a blast with it and glad you liked it.
Hopefully you'll see more soon.
Thanks,
Frank

I don't understand how she can "appear to be an aging diva who doesn't age." It seems more like she doesn't "appear to be an aging diva" despite her age.
Anyway, this isn't really my bag, as I am a person who doesn't care about celebrity culture and doesn't read much in the way of superhero comics. But you're right that the art is nice, and I wish you luck.
Wow - forgot about this thread and I never updated.
Well, for those interested Arcana picked it up last year and we're going to publish this summer. We're starting issue #3 and will be at NYCC 2007!
I'm currently putting updates on:

Thanks for all those that visited and I hope you'll give it a try when it comes out.
Later,
Frank
