Flatting questions

Not sure if this is the right section for this, so mods, please change if I put this in the wrong section :)

Alright I have some questions regarding flatting. I've been looking at the jobs posted in the talent search and I came up with a flatter who specified that the flatter needed to know how to work in grayscale. I'm not too sure what this means, got an idea, but just want to verify.

Also, The .tif files that I produce are huge, any of you have any tips on reducing the file size?

Grayscale is just a "color" mode that works only in shades of gray. Just convert your document to grayscale before you start flatting. As far as file size, just don't make any extra layers and save as a TIFF with LZW compression and you should weigh in under a meg.

The key to flatting in grayscale is to use grays that are easy for YOU to distinguish between by eye. I like to use at least 15% differences in my grays which gives 6 shades plus white and black.
