View Full Version : Sans from Undertale

My kids were obsessed with the Undertale online game and one of the main characters named Sans. I thought he would make for an interesting piece. I penciled it and inked it traditionally. And it gave me the chance to use my new Microsoft Surface to color it using Autodesk Sketchbook. I used a lot of gradients and the airbrush to smooth some colors together. Starting to really like that program!

My suggestion for colouring (english spelling here).... use less pure black and white.
Pure black and white are virtually non-existant in real life. PLUS alot of black can make the colours look muddy.

You do a ghastly disservice to your coloring with such casual resort to special effects that software makes readily available to you.

The bright neon pouring out of the creature's mouth at the top annihilates visual contrast. Less is almost always more, but here you went hog wild. The pink slippers look far, far better than all of that bright light and color visual nonsense that you've saddles this image with.

Practice discipline and restraint, anytime that you intend to resort to color or light. Otherwise, you'll wash out your visuals, and you'll create visual irritants for the human eye.

Color can be like a highly addictive drug. It's exceedingly easy to overdose on it. Special effects in software can be even more deadly to a colorist's work.

Post the image, BEFORE you colored it, if you will.
