I wanted to ask you guys what you thought about this idea I was have been thinking about for more than a year...

so I have a friend that does photography on the side..and hes pretty good.

and he and I both discuss our mutual appreciation for photography and art when specifically related to female fine art nude. like classy pin up type images. he sees my art I do of women..nude figures, many of which are of gals I know that provide the reference..and he wonders what my trick is to getting these ladies interested in doing this stuff. he wants to do photography of the same subject matter.

so as we talk, we came up with the idea of putting together an art book, where we get models, and he would take some pictures, and then I would produce different kinds of art from those photos, and the book would contain BOTH mediums. photos and art of the same model across a few pages.

I think this is an interesting idea, something I cant specifically recall having been done (tho im sure it has somewhere).. but I already have a model or 2 willing to be our subject matter to get started, where we could produce some content, and then put together a kickstarter to see if people would be willing to contribute to the project. depending on how successful the campaign would be, the book could grow bigger..with us being able to bring in other models, and do more photos and more art. ideally, I would like to have a big hardcover book with lots of different models with lots of great photos and different types of art of those models.

I think it could be a thing. so does my pal. we are actually pushing forward right now with a gal who is really gung ho to get some shots of herself done, and start this thing...

but I wanted to run it by you guys.. see what any of you thought...

maybe its not a great idea, but.. I can dream.

It's a fine idea. Could be great. (i would have zero interest in pledging myself.) There is probably some dumb rule about nudity on Kickstarter. I would look into that first.

Other than that, I would say DEW IT!

No rules about nudity on Kickstarter, in fact several porn comics have been funded there.

This feels like the kind of idea that ought to be a thing... I don't know what or how rich the market for it is. I mean, I see great photo and art books selling far cheaper than a crap pinup sometimes and I scratch my head. I used to love going through good art/photography books and appreciating all the nuances.

I share the same "how do you get models" question with your photographer friend... and not about nudes either. I scour the Internet for photos to use as reference, but sometimes I can't find poses or expressions that are what I really want... and I wish at those times I had a model or three that I could go to and get a particular pose or expression.

I've considered just cold-approaching people in public... men and women... and just asking if I can snap pictures with my iPhone. I don't care about the quality of the photo for my purposes since I need it for reference not something to make an exacting duplication... but I feel like people will probably think me some kind of weird shady dude for asking such a thing.

If you're looking for models, there are plenty of places like Model Mayhem. Also, you can go on deviantart, find accounts made by models and they'll either have their rates somewhere or link to a page with said rates.

Especially, if you are asking them to pose nude for you and your iPhone... :p

Most of the time I sincerely would just want a few facial expressions... I'm more interested in faces right now. And the budget isn't there to straight-up hire people, or I could go to the services or professionals who offer up modelling for hire. I need to figure it out on the cheap!

well im convinced its an idea worth pursuing. in fact I was just talking options with my friend just an hour ago..and about a model that is anxious to work with us on this. so... theres a lot of figuring out to do, but, maybe this will become a thing.

if only I didn't have to work at a full time job.. I could focus on all these projects all day..get them done much sooner. gah. I need to become independently wealthy.

Whenever you figure out how to be independently wealthy... let me have some of the scraps after you're done feasting, please? :)

But seriously... on your project here. To me the strong selling point is the mix of both drawing/painting and photography. Outside of instructional books, I can't recall books of mixed media like this. Lots of photography books and lots of drawing/painting books... but something that would show the photographer and the artist working on different versions of the same model should be interesting.
