View Full Version : Kickstarter for Lost Flight 1313 comic book

04-30-2015, 10:23 PM
Not long ago I began a Kickstarter for a comic book called, Lost Flight 1313, which is part of a series called Age of the Atroximals. (There is a good explanation for the name.) It is going to be the first out of, at least, five stories; all of which are going to be within the same literary universe. I'm currently trying to reach 30% of the goal before the deadline's halfway point.

Let me know what you think, and thank you for showing interest.

I've had some people ask about me what inspired me to write this story.
I've always been a fan of old sci-fi movies (including black & white classics) and horror movies. (I like other genres too, but these two are my favorites out of the bunch.) I think the reason I like these types of genres in particular, is because they usually house a certain guilty pleasure of mine: the B-movie. The cheaply made movies that have the ambitions of Orson Wells, but the budget of Ed Wood; the ones that you can tell are trying their best, or don't take themselves seriously, but not to the point of becoming almost offensive. They apply an amount of heart to their work, which gives off a charm to them that makes them enduring, despite how bad they may be in one aspect or another.
As far as I could remember, I wanted to make my own movies. I've got ideas in my head that could only be described as "B-movie grade" material, which I would just love to make and share with others, but I can't even get the funds to make one with a micro budget. I tried writing them in novelized versions, but they never panned out because they work best in a more visual medium.
- This is where I feel comic books come in to play -
When you think about it, comic books in general are like movies you read, and they have some advantages over them. Like a specific scene? Go ahead and gawk at that panel without rewinding. Like a certain line of dialogue? Read it to yourself again as much as you want. Think that part would sound funny in a particular voice? Imagine Gilbert Godfrey's voice instead of Bruce Willis.
Though the main background story is more serious in its horror/sci-fi theme, this story for the comic book however, is something I want people to enjoy for its ridiculousness. I want readers to bask in the gory, balls out action, combining elements from "John Carpenter's The Thing", "Starship Troopers", and "The Land That Time Forgot". I want readers to see how many different creatures the survivors have to fight, and how they do it. I want to have fun sharing a story with people that they will have fun reading, as much as I had fun writing, and as much as the artist had fun illustrating.
I hope that those of you, who like what you see on my Kickstarter page, pledge money to it so we can make it. I hope I get to share something with you, which will only be the beginning of something ranging from playful to scary; meaningful to outrageous; small to epic. Overall, it will be the beginning of a fun journey that I hope you'll be willing to take with me.
