Looking for a critique. I've never lettered before, but am learning so I can letter my own stuff but have been collaborating on a few stories for a local (Louisville, KY) anthology.

I did the story and lettering, so that is all within my control. These are a page from each story. looking for an overall opinion and if you have any specifice, feel free to be as harsh (or nice!) as you want.

The first page was the most complex page I've done so far as far as balloon placement.

The second page, I am starting to mess with effects and wanted an opinion

Just need a little practice. Best advice I can give.

Try to remember that you want each bit of text to be able to hit into a coin.

So shoot for more circular and less elliptical?

yep. it should free up a little space for balloon placement. Which should be another area of focus when practicing.

It seems to me that the line weight of the normal balloons is too light. Maybe that's just personal preference.

Also, in the last panel of the fantasy page, who is saying, "Hydra!"? I would assume it is the same woman who said "Dragon!" earlier, but the balloon seems to be issuing from the back of the person in the foreground. I'm also a little bugged by the other speech balloon in that panel covering the foreground person's head.

Just my two cents!
