Just a quick question.

Is there a shortcut or effect to get this look or do I just need to make the shape and place it on a layer below the actual balloon?

If you really want a simple way of doing rough balloons, you can create one balloon with about 8-10 pt stroke and then add the rough effect to your liking.

I think a better way is this (with multiple balloons):

Yeah, I saw that one from Comicraft, but I like having the perfect ellipse inside the effect. I was just wondering if I missed an effect that would do that to a single balloon just to save a bit of time.

Guess not.

Thanks.

Also... depending on what program you are using for your lettering... there are often "pen type" options for your stroke that will create interesting balloons.

So, you can take an already drawn balloon and make a copy of it, then change the "pen type" (or whatever setting in your program) and see how that alters the look of the balloon.

I use a "charcoal" pen type sometimes to get some interesting line looks. It works well, for instance, when drawing craters on the moon... just draw the shapes and switch to the "charcoal" pen type using Adobe Illustrator.
