View Full Version : Where Can I Buy These Comics???

So, one of the annoying things about Australia is that the comics scene is almost non-existent compared to the US. My closest comic book shop is 3 hours away, and not only does their range suck enormously, but the books are waaaaaay overpriced. Like, they buy their books retail from the US, add on the shipping cost, then add on their profit margin, and that's the Aussie retail price.

I pretty much rely on Amazon to get my hands on comics. When Amazon fails to stock the comics I'm after, I dunno where to go.

So here's what I'm looking for at the moment:

EX MACHINA (Deluxe edition series, Harcover)
I've got book one, but the others are a problem.
Book two (http://www.amazon.com/Ex-Machina-Book-Deluxe-Edition/dp/1401226779/) is reasonably available and the price is okay, but I'm not liking the seller ratings.
Books three (http://www.amazon.com/Ex-Machina-Book-Deluxe-Edition/dp/1401228003), four (http://www.amazon.com/Ex-Machina-Book-Deluxe-Edition/dp/1401228453/), and five (http://www.amazon.com/Ex-Machina-Deluxe-Book-Five/dp/1401229999/ref) are thoroughly in the stupidly-priced range.

THE STARMAN (Omnibus editions, Paperbacks)
I've got volumes one and two, but again, the others are a problem.
Volume three (http://www.amazon.com/Starman-Omnibus-Vol-3/dp/1401222854/), is ridiculously overpriced. And I can't even find the paperback editions of four (http://www.amazon.com/Starman-Omnibus-Vol-James-Robinson/dp/1401225969/), five (http://www.amazon.com/Starman-Omnibus-Vol-James-Robinson/dp/1401228895/), and six (http://www.amazon.com/The-Starman-Omnibus-Vol-6/dp/140123044X/).

My question to you guys- where can I buy these books?? It bugs me that even though I really enjoyed these books, I can't finish my collections. I figure there's gotta be some comics book outlet somewhere that stocks these books and is willing to ship to Australia, but I just can't find them.

Heeeeeeeeelllllpppp?

If I'm following right, I think you might be dealing with, not only shipping and availability and being on a different continent than the publisher, but DC/Vertigo's new publishing scheme.

Good/bad: they've been letting past editions go out of print and collecting what was 2-3 "volumes" into "books" like http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/1/71/915?stockItemID=OCT130291 and http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/1/71/915?stockItemID=FEB140292 Starman might just be unavailable now and not yet gone into a new format; I work with the LCS, and, trust me, it's at least as confusing to you as it is to us.

Not sure if that helps you. These comics still exist in print, but there could be some overlap with what you've already purchased and in different formats. But should be available through your local(-ish) comic shop.

Well poop. That's not really what I wanted to hear! Makes sense though. I had some suggestions for other online outlets through PM, but they've all turned up the same as Amazon. Just the first book/s available, anything else is either completely unavailable or stupidly overpriced.

I wasn't in a position to buy right now anyway, but I didn't think I'd have to wait until DC pulled its finger out its ass to do a relaunch. I could probably hunt down the floppies, but it's pretty darn rare when I pick up anything thinner than Saga...

If I'm gonna pay a premium to get books shipped to Australia (or pay the same premium by buying from my "local" comic shop), then I'd prefer the books to have a little staying power.

Nice to see you finally have your "In the Dark" a horror anthology.
How do you like it?

You already know of Amazon.
What about getting books from Ebay?

DC has been following Marvel in regards to hardcovers. When they are gone, they rarely attempt to keep them in stock, and rely on the softcovers. I have Ex Machina 1-4. Volume 5 priced at $30 is as good as you're getting. It's not available anymore via Diamond. I've had luck with a Canadian comic book store in Saskatoon.

Haha, that's why I haven't got The Standard and Emily too. I don't like buying an issue, buying it again as a trade, and then buying it again as a HC.

Unfortunately, Ebay is more of the same.

I only just received In The Dark the other day. I haven't read it yet (gotta finish reading my current book first). It looks amazing though! There is a deep scuff across the front of the cover (from the printing machinery, from the looks of it), but I'll survive. :har:

Volume 4 seems to be the biggest joke. People are listing it well in excess of $100. What the flip?

If I have extra spending money, I buy the digital copies just for the sake of giving support (I hate reading comics on a screen), but that's stopped for the moment.

But even if CT releases paperback collections, I'm up for that. It doesn't HAVE to be hardcover. *nudge Steven* :whistlin::har:

The plan is to get it into a collected edition. Whether that's a soft or hardcover isn't my call. But I know what I want--a hardcover.
