With all the shows and stuff on television, why isn't there one about the Godfather?

Base it on the books/movies, and weave the show in and around them. It would be a period piece like Mad Men, but there is enough mystery, intrigue, and family politics for a show. The storyline possibilities are nearly boundless. Put it on HBO or Netflix, and people will watch.

I'm thinking this would be an instant hit.

Thoughts?

That would be sort of like Boardwalk Empire wouldn't it?

Or The Sopranos.

Why do it when they've already been able to do it cheaper.

I've never seen Boardwalk Empire.

It's about the characters, for me.

I've started watching Breaking Bad, and I'm seeing the parallels between Mr. White and Michael Corleone. Both were good men who did bad things. Watching their corruption has been fascinating to me.

There was a miniseries based on Mario Puzo's other mafia novel The Last Don.
