So... who around this joint watches Dr. Who? Who's your favorite Doctor? Who should be the Twelfth?

I do.

My choices are:

David Morrissey, Kevin McKidd, Robson Green or Ben Whishaw.

If they go female:

Anna Friel or Hermione Norris.

Gene Wilder as the Doctor.

I said it in another thread. What if Matt Smith regenerate into Christopher Eccleston, lost his memory and got thrown back in time to the first episode of the 10th? That will surely blow people's minds.

Colin Morgan

Colin Morgan could be good! Or maybe Ewan McGregor, or Catherine Tate...

John Hurt! :) Catherine Tate isn't a bad idea, though.

John Hurt is theorized to be the permanent replacement, but I don't think so... The girl who played Sally Sparrow could be interesting, no? Or Rory. He was so underrated. You know who I really think could be neat? John Noble.

Bring on the red vines. Red vines are cool. :D

Actually Moonrider, I kinda like that idea. I know there were some bad feelings between Chris Ecc and the producers, but I think he was pretty amazing! Then again, how did the Tenth go? By saying, "I don't want to go..." Wouldn't it blow people's minds if they did a repeat? I don't have a firm choice, but I kinda think it would be interesting if they cast Robbie Williams or Martin Freeman.

I'm kinda trying to figure out where to start....I just got the first episode of the 2005 series...I didnt want to go all the way back to the first series...looking for a nice soft reboot point to jump in.

If I may, the Christopher Eccleston era is a fine place to start, and move along from there...

I agree. That was the point where my addiction began. I casually revisit the early ones though. The Third was my favorite of the classics. He did karate, drove a roadster, wore crushed velvet, and had a hovercraft. What's not to like..?

This summer my plan is to try and find some of the classics to watch. I've seen a few and don't really care for them, but another person has given me a list of "myth" important episodes and/or specials, some of which can apparently be found on youtube.

So, I caught the first episode "Rose"....so far so awesome...I like where it was going...looking forward to watching number 2 today. Also, Billie Piper is extra super hot...I remember seeing her for the first time on that HBO show...didnt know she was on Dr. Who first...

Oooo... cool, if I remember right, the next episode has Cassandra in it... I do like that character.

And you'll eventually meet Captain Jack.

I went on a Who rampage and have been watching 2 or 3 episodes a day for the last week. Last night I watched "A Good Man Goes To War"... which was amazing!

Have you watched the series with Donna Noble in it? I loved those episodes.

BEN DENNIS

Not yet. I'm actually watching 10 and 11 at the same time. On 10 I'm to Rose's last episode.
I was worried about watching them in a non-linear fashion, then I remembered it doesn't matter because time is a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

I liked the gas born energy zombie people and Charles Dickens....good stuff!

My favorites as well! Donna was - imho - the only companion who was really equal to the Doctor, as she was the only one who didn't have a thing for him. In the reboots, anyway. Even Amy had eyes only for the Doctor for the longest time.

I really think that all righted itself after the Last Centurion thing though when Rory showed that he was really quite b.a.

Who are we talking about?

Exactly. He's the Doctor... basically... run!

I vote for Peter Capaldi (harr harr!). I was really hoping for Patterson Joseph or Rory Kinnear. I will say Matt Smith has been my favorite of New Who as the kids call it. But I remember the first Doctor I saw was Tom Baker and I was hooked.

I spent all last month rewatching the old series in anticipation of the 12th Doctor reveal. I really enjoyed Eccleston's run so much more this time around than before, and Matt Smith's first season (Series 5) is probably the best (or my favorite) season yet. Amy was still a bit more tolerable at that point lol.

Thoughts on the new Doctor? He was a madman in The Thick of It, it's hard to think he'd ever top that character.

I've only seen The Thick of It/In the Loop and The Hour, I loved his characters. I like that he says he hasn't played The Doctor since he was nine and it will certainly be fun to see the way he saw The Doctor.

Looking forward to seeing Capaldi take over the reins but I don't really know him from anything else. I've ordered The Thick of It from Lovefilm.com to see him in action.

But first we have the 50th anniversary special with John Hurt! Still very, very excited about that.

Tom Baker is 'my' Doctor. I started watching when he was playing the role - he had a mad smile, a huge scarf, an endless supply of jelly babies AND he's a Scouser. So much to love.

It's fun to watch the old episodes and see the walls of spaceships wobble and bubblewrap get used for alien skin. But don't let low production costs put you off - they tackled some major issues in those days. Definitely worth delving back into the archives :D

Of course, the CGI overshadows all of that and I love the way it's been brought up to date. I don't really have a favourite of the 'modern' Doctors - they've all been brilliant in their way. 'The Doctor's Wife' is one of my favourite episodes, though. Love the idea that the TARDIS stole The Doctor!

Capaldi was also in the BBC Two series Neverwhere, a Neil Gaiman novel adaptation.

Possibility of Neil Gaiman writing a third Doctor Who script :)

I'm looking forward to this new rendition. I'm hoping the Doctor will still have some kind of sense of humor... But most of all, the Anniversary special will surely be amazing...!!

The Doctor's Wife is tops for me, I hope Gaiman has the time to write a few more.
