A two-part look at the book series My Name Is Paris with title lettering by Tom Orzechowski and art by Michael Kaluta. Part 1 highlights the lettering and it's on my blog (http://alphabettenthletter.blogspot.com/2013/02/under-cover-my-name-is-paris-part-1.html).

Tomorrow's Part 2 (http://alphabettenthletter.blogspot.com/2013/02/under-cover-my-name-is-paris-part-2.html) is on the art.

Great work by both you and Tom! I remember seeing these and wanting to buy them, but I could only find 3 and 4, and my anal retentive ways prevented me from getting an incomplete set.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the type choice for the title page, it should have been something more art nouveau, but I bet it was chosen by the publisher, where there is so often no imagination in type choices.

Cool! Always interesting to find out the "behind-the-scenes" development stuff from other creatives and how/why some of the decisions were made. I shared the link to your post on my FB page, too.

Looking forward to reading Part 2. :)

Thank you, Todd and Tanja.

On this series I was responsible for providing a template for the book design. Given the schedule and publisher's needs, I chose a single font, ITC Berkeley; the earlier title page designs, with Tom's lettering, were rejected. Random House used my template without any changes. Most of its attention was on the cover art and design, and less so on the interior.
