I've not read the book. I take it this deviates from it?

I really don't understand why they paid Max Brooks for the rights to WWZ and not even use any of the material from the book!?
Brad Pitt could have just made a zombie movie and cut out Max Brooks entirely!

I can't help but wonder if Leonardo DiCaprio had won the bidding war if the movie would have stood a chance to have been made correctly.

If you haven't read the book, here's what's different based on what I've seen from the trailer.
In the book the zombies are walkers, not runners.
The zombie war is over, not beginning.
There is no one main character as the book is told through the first hand accounts of the survivors.
The book has far less CGI.

Gah! I'm so disappointed. :-(

If you want to see how this movie should have been, watch "The Dead".
It's like a chapter was pulled directly out of the WWZ book and brought to cinematic life.

It's not about the fact that it deviates, I could deal with that, it's the tone of the movie. I obviously haven't seen the film yet, but it really looks like an action movie where Brad Pitt is trying to save the world from the zombie apocalypse, which misses the point of the novel completely. And I know someone is going to day that the trailer isn't usually representative of the movie necessarily... like I said, just going by what I see.

The point of the book is to chronicle the truth about the outbreak, how it got so out of hand, what the world did wrong, how people survived and finally fought back, and what still needs to be done. It's written in such an authentic way that it's completely believable.... you know, if there were actual zombies.

They're supposed to be zombies? I didn't get that until it was told to me. I thought everybody was running from something else. And obviously Brad Pitt was involved in an arranged marriage in this movie.

It's Brad Pitts company "Plan B" that made the movie. He and Leonardo DiCaprio had a bidding war over the rights to this film.
I was excited when Brad Pitt won, but now I think I put my money on the wrong horse.

Irony: As much as I hate zombies and state so at just about any given opportunity, this trailer actually looks pretty exciting.

I like my zombies staggering around like drunks at 3 in the morning. Hide and they miss you where you can stab them with an ice pick or hammer or something like grandma used to do. I'll watch this on DVD though.

So, it looks like Pitt is doing to WWZ what Smith did to I Am Legend...

I heard this movie has zombies.

Just for the record, this trailer didn't let me know this movie was about zombies.

But the director felt blue should be more red. I agree with the directors vision.

Watched Contagion last night. I'm guessing that's the tone that World War Z (the movie) should have aimed for.

They were zerglings! That's what the 'z' stands for. Damn alien zerg spawns. :p

Yep. That's pretty much what I was thinking the whole time I was watching Contagion.
