I'm looking for pencils only for an up coming series. As of right now. I will be pitching the story to the various industry contacts that I have. And if nothing else I will be self publishing the book. The project already has some interest from some publishers I have talked to about it. Having a finished issue to put in their hands would really sell it though. Here are some key point you as the artist needs to know before sending links or samples of your work. This is a story based around World War II, so having a reference is a must for this book to make it believable. There are also some superhero elements throughout the story. This book would be in the horror genre so the way you use lighting and create the mood of a page will really tell me if your right for the book. At the same time you will have to sell the superhero type scenes in the book. So, I will be looking for someone with a strong hold on perspective, and some good action scenes with dynamic figures poses. And lastly you will have to know how to draw children. That is a must.

I'm not looking for just one style from the pencils. Just as long as you can pull off the time period and your storytelling is solid. This story is extremely dark and has gore and a bit of ultra-violence in it. So if you normally draw bunnies and kittens this is not the book for you.

What I would need from the artist personally is that you are easy to work with and talk to. So the better you can speak English that would really help me. I don't want to say I'm just looking for American artists. Having a language barrier between me and the artist, just makes my life harder. But if your from out of the states and your work is good enough you might get picked. I can't stress this enough. You must be easy to work with. With artists comes an ego. I'm an artist as well. So if I am in contact with you and your not picked please do not tell me there will be no one as good as you for my project. I will be inking over the pencils. So if you dont think our styles mesh well. That saves you from sending samples. http://jameswhynotinks.deviantart.com/

Okay please send samples or links to jameswhynotart@gmail.com
Links to your work would be better. Please include a little about yourself. Drawing background, art school if you went. past credit on other books. This just shows me you can hit a deadline. You must be able to meet the deadlines. And lastly page rate for pencils only. I promise I will try to get back to everyone that sends me links their work. I will be asking from the people I pick if they could do a sample.

Again jameswhynotart@gmail.com.
Send links, background in art, where your from, page rate, past credits.

Thanks for your interest. I hope to see a lot of awesome artists sending me samples.

Thanks so everyone that has sent in samples. Right now. I will be narrowing down the list to about five or more and sending out sample scripts. This doesnt mean you still cant send me an email. I have been getting a lot of emails from people that have similar styles. Like I said in my first post. I am looking for different styles. And just pencils. This book is very dark and gritty, and pushing the limit on being a horror book. So that is the kind of samples I'm looking for. I could give some names of artists I like so you can see if you have any sort of similar styles to them. Chris Bachalo, Greg Capullo, Ryan Ottley, Sean Murphy, Tradd Moore, Humberto Ramos, David Finch, John Romita Jr. So if you look anything like these guys. That would catch my eye right away.
So thanks to everyone that has sent samples. Keep them coming. I will be closing this thread on friday. Or unless I find an artist that just fits right away.

Also on a side note. I know I asked for page rates. If are sending me samples and your page rate is $200 dollars or more and I feel like you are giving me $15 dollars worth for samples. Don't be upset when I tell you NO. Lets face it guys/girls. I'm not Marvel. But if i think you are worth it. Maybe we can work something out.

This post is closed, Thank you to everyone that sent in examples of their work. There are so many talented artists out there. Its hard to pick just one for the project. But I need to pick the person I think is best for the job. So thanks again to everyone.
I will no longer be taking inquires to this post.
