We have a book going to press by the end of the week and have had an incident with our current artist. We are looking for several pieces of B&W Line art. The pieces will be used in Luchador: Bright Lights and Barbwire (http://spartacuspublishing.com/ ; http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/344186910/luchador-bright-lights-and-barbwire-rpg).
You will retain ownership and copyright of the physical piece. We are purchasing the rights for two uses. Once in this book and in a possble future compilation. The budget is unfortunately as tight as the time on this. We can offer $20 for each piece we use and will include a copy of the finished product. (You will be allowed to purchase additional copies of the book for $5, 33% of SRP.) Specific listings will follow but we are also looking for appropriate filler pieces.
The art should be black and white line art as appropriate for a game book. Typically we are looking for quarter page panels approximately 4x6". The art will need to be delivered digitally in at least 300 dpi. We will be doing final layouts of the piece Wednesday night for a Thursday submission to the printer. If you plan on submitting pieces please let me know which pieces as soon as possible at art@spartacuspublishing.com.
Luchador: Way of the Mask is a role-playing game that allows you to take on the persona of a masked wrestler of your own design and grapple with the forces of evil. Inspired by the films of El Santo, Blue Demon, Los Campeones Justicieros and others this game embodies the thrilling adventure of the movies and the grueling action of the ring. In this Luchador: Bright Lights and Barbwire the Luchadors travel north of the border in their quest for action.
Art Specs
Unless otherwise noted all depictions of wrestlers should be generic masked Mexican wrestlers. Photo-referencing is fine as long as it does not cross the line into infringement.
Valets
A picture of a valet throwing a screaming fit at a luchador after a bad break up.
Filler: A driver holding a door for a luchador or a classic wrestling manager posing with luchador. Whatever sounds fun.
Title Belts
A wrestler challenging for a belt in some inappropriate situation. My first idea is a wrestler standing on a counter at a fast food place brandishing a stolen belt above a fallen luchdor. Adapt as you see fit.
Filler: a pimped out Championship belt?
Specialties - Hardcore
For the hardcore specialty, have the Eviscerators (from the front cover of LUchador: Way of the Mask) fighting a classic hardcore/barbwire character. One of the Eviscerators is down and the other is moving in for revenge, pitting a folding chair vs. the barbed wire bat.
Filler: a non-masked wrestler staring at the viewer with blood covering his face (the crimson mask)
Specialties - Comic
For the comedy act, a luchador attempting the Warner Brothers ‘get the stick’ routine with a pack of guard dogs in some bleak looking situation. The ability depicted is supposed to allow the wrestler to save face in adversity by employing comedy, so the character should be cornered or otherwise in peril.
Talking Good Fight
Wrestler standing on the ropes at the turnbuckle posturing with a mike in hand.
New Luchadors - Giant
Try something exotic for the giant. I’m thinking 7 foot plus with facepaint and a topknot (Mongol style rather than sumo). The giant emphasizes mass, so more barrel-chested than other wrestlers.
Filler: a giant hand palming a wrestlers face
New Luchadors - Mini
For the mini (midget wrestler), include something to denote size of the wrestler (car, ring ropes, beaten opponent, etc). A little person version of Mother Mercy (Little Mercy), a luchador nun from Way of the Mask, was originally requested.
Police Involvement
Cops taking report from luchadors while werewolf being dragged off on a stretcher. Or the werewolf could be snarling from the rear of the car while the luchador explains things.
Aquila in the Hospital
A collection of luchadors in a hospital room. A luchador with an eagle design mask is in a body cast in a bed, and a barrel-chested priest stands between him and our heroes. The priest is an older man but still imposing. Bald with beard. He’s a complete red herring in the story but needs to look like a potential candidate for the killer.
The Faire
Luchadors being lead through a Ren Faire. A handsome Mexican teen is their guide. He’s the son of the guy in the cast from the previous scene. He is in appropriate period attire as a European knight but attempts to incorporate the eagle imagery. This character is our PCs link to the whole story and he needs to have that hero in the making quality about him. If you know about Ren Faires than add in any details you like.
Joust
Biker with lance (or chain) riding in a jousting event (on his bike of course). Luchador diving off a horse to clothesline the biker. I’m not seeing a lot of need for background here, but you can put in a throne for the ‘king’ or crowds of onlookers if you like.
The bikers in the story are the Damned Knights, but feel no pressure to include iconography, just don’t put in anything that would clearly conflict.
Night at the watertower
The teen from the Faire scene hanging out at night on the town watertower with an attractive blond. She should look a little retro with pony tail and skirt. I’m suddenly thinking of Betty from the archie comics. She’s also the ghost from the finale scene, but he doesn’t know it. There’s a whole unrequited love bit, but that’s not really important. Just don’t make them too cozy.
B. B. Wolfe
The notorious biker B. B. Wolfe is released from custody on the steps of the courthouse when evidence disappears. Throngs of angry citizens and press attend. Wolfe is a sneering cocky villain of a biker with a werewolf vibe (he’s not, but it is implied). Goatee and ponytail, excessive tattoos, and anything else that pushes the stereotype. He rides with the Damned Knights. His lawyer is a little weasel of an ambulance chaser and completely corrupt in a near cartoonish fashion. Wolfe should tower over him and most spectators.
The Sheriff
Smalltown corrupt sheriff dragging his heels as he arrests Damned Knight members (not Wolfe). Spunky and cute deputy loading bad guys into squadcar. Possible flirtation with luchadors (one of our male heroes). I know this harkens back to the prior cop picture, this is intentional to mislead players who skim the art in the book.
Misery Hall Madonna
Mother Mercy crossing herself before a beheaded statue of the Madonna. The statue is in the dorms where the girls were murdered (25 years ago so no lingering blood).
Deus Ex Machina
Morgan (Goth computer chick) and assorted lucha heroes staring at laptop computer screen. The image of the Scooby Doo crew reading over Velma’s shoulder as she reveals the answer to the mystery comes to mind.
Screams in the Night
The Eviscerators being awakened by a ghostly woman floating over the bed and pointing accusingly. The ghost is a murdered catholic school girl (age 18ish, not a child). She can be skeletal or wraithlike depending on your artistic vision. Killed by decapitation, but I don’t really want the headless ghost thing.
Finale
Ax-wielding psycho-killer (now in medieval chainmail armor) chasing goth girl towards water tower. A ghostly woman stands atop the tower (not the very top, but the walkway kids stand on when they vandalize a water tower). This is from the horror movie part of the adventure so make it as dark as you like.
