View Full Version : How much music ya got?

Okay, so it's late (early to normal people, I suppose) and I'm bored so I just went through Windows Media Player and made a playlist of all my music and it came to...

659 HOURS!

Which, as it turns out, is twenty-seven days :w00t:

So, I'm betting I've got most of everyone else beat, but just out of curiosity: How much music ya got?

(In Windows Media Player, just go to "Library", then to "Music" and press the play button without selecting anything. It automatically adds everything to the playlist.)

According to Winamp, all the music I have stored on my computer (which is most, but not all of it) is about 64 hours worth.

I have a LOT of music.

I'll have to check my iTunes when I get home, but I have something like 35 days worth.

I'll update it with the true number when I get home.

Lightweight.

64 hours probably doesn't even cover Lord Fejj's Zeppelin collection.

Hm.

Interesting.

I thought I had more music than that.

I have 26.7 days worth of music.

Interesting.

My collection is much smaller than that. I don't pirate, and I'm poor. :(

I do know that my Zep collection contains exactly 100 songs. Of course, they probably average 7 minutes or so, so that's like half a day right there. Damn, now I gotta go listen to In My Time of Dying and Achilles' Last Stand to see which is more awesome. Thanks a lot, Bucky.

63 of those hours is I know what boys Like by the Waitresses.

I don't know how many hours it is, but I have roughly 150.6 Gigs of mp3's.

I have 51 Zep songs for a total of 4.2 hours. So, half your waking day at least is pretty accurate.

I also have 182 NOFX songs for a total of 6.4 hours.

Anyone have a good Allman Brothers collection to measure?

I've been definitively beaten! :) Nice job.

And, yes, I was definitely not expecting the number I got either. I'm considering listening to it all the way through...

I think Metallica's time/song ratio may be higher than Zep's or the Allman's (when restricted to album material), especially if you only look at their 80's output (which is a good idea in any case). If you throw in live stuff, you have to add Cream, Floyd, the Purp, and virtually every progressive band in as major contenders as well. I don't know what about the late 60's-early 70's made everyone want to jam for half an hour on each song, but I'm grateful for it.

My lighter's out of butane!

I have to check, but I think I have something like 30 hours of Prince.

(Then again, I over-estimated before...)

Newt has twice as many Zeppelin songs as I do.

So you've got to double my time.

I have to check, but I think I have something like 30 hours of Prince.

So, what then, about 5% of his catalog?

Lord Fejj

My itunes says 26 days of music, although I have a bunch of cds that were never loaded. I have 18.6 hours of zeppelin, although I must admit I don't listen to them that much anymore. I mostly listen to blues these days.
I also have about 2hrs and 20 min of various Jimmy Page stuff, maybe about an hour of Robert Plant stuff. I prefer to buy cds and load them, but I also download from itunes from time to time (usually when someone gets me a gift card). I also have a buttload of records that I've been slowly digitizing when I get the time and inclination (only the older ones that I can't find in cd).

Of Prince's published catalog? No. More like 98% of it. There may be some things here and there that I'm missing.

Of his unpublished catalog? I probably have about 1%...

Thanks for making me a sad panda.

It doesn't really come close to what other guys have got here, but I do have a fairly respectable 17.4 days on iTunes.

There are quite a few duplicates on there and a few comedy albums, so I reckon I'd get it down to 17 days of actual music. Most of it is from my CD collection I built up during my teens and early 20's.

There used to be a chain of stores here in the UK called music zone that used to sell CDs for about £5, or 5 for £20 so it was easy to build up a nice collection.

That store went under a few years back, so aside from the odd impulse buy at the supermarket, most of my music is downloads now.

The most I have of any one group is Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers/Refreshments. 17 hours, 47 minutes, 38 seconds. Best band in the world. I own all of their albums and have been collecting recordings of their live shows.

65.75 days. (Subtract 1.75 days for podcasts to be fair)
Over two days of that is Buckethead alone
40 hours of King Crimson
21 hours of Melvins
18 hours of Johnny Cash
20 hours of NIN

I actually have no idea how much I have . I have my old pc that I have to grab all the songs off of still, my new computer and my lap top plus my cd collection is less than half ripped. Unlike me who is more than half ripped. Maybe I'll take a closer look when I get home.
