I came back to work today, from lunch, and on my desk was a package from Perseus Publishing. I get books all the time, so I figured that's what it was, but I didn't know what book it could be.

I opened it, and inside was The Batman Vault (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Vault-Museum-Book-Collectibles/dp/0762436638/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256837631&sr=8-1). A great way to brighten my day!

The book is similar to The DC Vault (http://www.amazon.com/DC-Vault-Museum-Book-Collectibles/dp/0762432578/ref=pd_sim_b_3), released last year. Both books are large, horizontal hardcover coffee table books called "A museum in a book," and that's exactly what they are. They have replicas of old promotional items, comics, fliers, sketches, and all kinds of cool things to play with as you read the fantastic history of the character(s).

One weird thing in the Batman book is a replica of an old Yiddish theater playbill, and on the back Bob Kane has done a quick sketch of Robin for a fan ... and he calls Robin Batman's "Boy Friend." What's fun about things like this is that you can actually take them out of the book and hold them like the original. It's like holding history!

If you ever have a chance to pick up one of these books, do it! But for $50 (or even $32 on amazon), it may be a bit much. If you've got the money to blow, it's a great investment. If you don't have that kind of disposable income, try to find it on bargain shelves or on eBay.

However you get it, get it. It's a great book! Batman fans especially will love both books, but will perhaps find a little more enjoyment in The Batman Vault.

Me? I hope they do a Superman Vault next (I imagine they will eventually). Until then, I'll have to get by on the DC Vault for my fix of the Man of Steel.

Oh yeah ... they make a Marvel Vault, also. If you swing that way.

There's a company called LTD Commodities that has been selling the Marvel and DC Vault books for $20 each the past few months.

The Batman Vault sounds cool...

Isn't Batman's vault where he keeps all of his secret Bat-porn?

I have the Marvel Vault. The reproductions are a lot of fun.
