Same artist for the entire thing (can't tell from the signatures)? Impressive style change!

This is Deon Nuckols' first Fist of Justice cover for us. MAC usually does them but was swamped so he was only able to ink this one.
Chad Hardin is doing the cover for #6 (he drew DWP 29 and 30 for us).

When is issue 5 out, anyway? I haven't missed it, have I?

eDuke

Nope. We're waiting on orders from Diamond. Keeping our fingers crossed it'll be enough to actually get it out there -- should know next week.

Any news?

We received the purchase order from Diamond, but we're steering towards just canceling it because the sales aren't at a level we need them to be. We'll release the issue as a print-on-demand comic sold here on the website. In a couple years, we'll collect a bunch of of the early issues and put out the trades (probably one a year). The newer issues will also be available on the iPhone/iPod soon.

R.I.P? Well the writing was on the wall. At least you had so many issues
done( better than nothing), ill make an effort in keeping old FoJ alive by sneaking him into pages when i can.

The series is continuing but on the iPhone and TPBs.

I'm still on the fence about printing #5. It'll basically depend on if I can get it finished over the next week and if I can get a variant cover.

But, issues 5-8 are done. Issue 5-7 are drawn by Pow Rodrix, the 8th issue drawn by Dario Carrasco. We just lost Pow for #9 and beyond because Marvel and DC grabbed him.

Id suggest a blank sketch cover. Its a big risk but they are the rage right now and what better way to get your favorite artist to draw a character?
That or get Wya or someone with name recog to do a pencil variant.
Just a suggestion.
Good luck Ed!

So, do you lost Pow Rodrix because Marvel and Dc grabbed him?
What about Cinar and Chad Hardin?
Well, for me, this is a prove of what you are publishing is good material and
the RETAILERS should be aware of that.

Yes, Marvel and DC gave Pow work. Cinar is working on DC stuff, Chad is working on Marvel and DC books.

Okay, I got the variant! Joe Staton is drawing it and putting E-Man and FOJ on the cover. I gotta get it inked, you interested? This cover is gonna be a limited edition cover only available here and select comic shops that order directly from me. If you ink, I can toss a bunch your way.

Is the print on demand thing going to be only for issue 5 or is this how you plan on doing issues 6-8 too?

eDuke
07-01-2009, 01:28 AM
I'm gonna print #5 through a regular printer. The issues after that will be print-on-demand unless our orders for #6 increase high enough that Diamond will let us solicit #7 (it should be in the new Previews coming out on Wednesday).

#6 is in the current Previews. Maybe being on a regular schedule will boost sales? I don't know. I'm pretty resigned to the fact that distro through Diamond is done. Ed and I need to work up an official announcement that we'll put in #5.

Like he said, we're done all the way through #7. #8 is going to be easy to do since Dario has most of it done already. And then #9-12 will be a big, blow-out story that ties up nearly everything we've been doing. One plot will hang around for a few issues after #12 and then it'll be a whole new ballgame.

So, the book isn't dead. It's just going to be a little harder to get it. The upside of THAT, however, is that we might just make some money on it which will mean more and more issues AND the reality of TPBs a done deal.

I'm gonna go ahead and solicit #7 with them in hopes we see a bump in sales for #6. Because technically, we won't know if they refuse to carry it by the time solicits are due. So I gotta find someone to whip up a cover.

In the meantime, we need to get cranking on #9 and beyond so we can maintain the bi-monthly schedule.

This week will be a good week. A fairly normal schedule, not monkeys on my back for now - I'm free to do this stuff!

The cover is DONE.
I chose to "update" the look of FoJ and i think i managed to keep Joes
style intact with some modern tweaks thrown in.

I wonder why Fist of Justice #5 didn't show up in Diamonds list this week?
#5 will be available tomorrow, correct?

No, it's gonna be a late one. Should be out end of month in August. I was really going back and forth about releasing or canceling it. Last minute, I decided to go forward with it. I should know if #6 will make it through Diamond in a couple weeks.

I'm gonna go ahead and finish #6 so even if it doesn't go through Diamond, the book should be out in September and can be purchased on this website or in digital format on the iPhone.

Let me know IF you did get my tiff file and did the art make it to you?
Thanks.

When do you expect to get the PO from Diamond for issue #6?
I'm trying to get an idea of how much campaigning time is left.

I usually get them the second week of the month. So that'll put us at the week of August 9th. Thanks, dude!! You're one of our biggest supporters!

Wacky IS our biggest supporter.

I've pretty much resigned myself to the digital and POD formula. And to be honest, it's much more economically sane for Ed. The POD quality is always improving and you never know what could happen a few months or even weeks from now.

What's that zen-like saying? One door closes, another door opens?

Paul Sanderson

Nothing wrong with POD, dude. I'd say that's the smart way to go, especially in these tough economic times.

I'm all for POD, Frank. Ed's the one that needed a little prodding.

Fist of Justice #5 will be in stores next Wednesday.

All issues after that will, as Ed mentioned, be available via the store here. You'll also be able to buy them from me at shows and, more than likely, at Beyond Comics.

Ed and I still need to talk about getting copies to other stores that want to carry the book.

But fret not - Charm City's greatest defender is going to be around for as long as you guys want him around.

How many members are here on DW?

Have everyone here buy at least one copy. We all come here every day and network and shoot the shit and talk about comics, we should really try to do something to support the site a little more. Plus, FoJ is good comics!
