My tool box is pretty basic, I think.
- 2H and HB 2mm Mechanical Pencils (Steadler Mars). I use the 2h for all the linework and the HB for emphasis and the heavier outline ala' Adam Hughes/Alphonse Mucha.
- I have 12" and 18" steel rulers and a 12" and 18" set of triangles.
- a putty eraser to gently erase lines (I only need a little force because I'm pressing so lightly with my pencils).
- a white eraser (for when I don't press lightly ;))
- a good compass set.
-circle templates with a nice range.
- eliptical guides with a nice range.
- french curves. Every once in a while, these come in very handy.
- and my favorite tool, the TuffStuff eraser stick! I can't live without this tool. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a thin eraser in pen form that is perfect for getting in there and erasing a small detail without destroying everything around it.
And that's about all I can think of. I do a lot of lightboxing - you might want to invest in one. I also use a lap board instead of a drawing table but I'm not sure I'd recommend that. lol.

Eh. I find them more trouble than they're worth... but find whatever works for you.

I mostly us it for erasing inks. It's a pain because it will cut the paper you are trying to erase on.

Lol. I tried it for a while but really starting hating it since it always rolled off the desk. If it's working for you, go for it!

These would be great for the on the go artist. They come in smaller and larger sizes but this size is nice. Search the site and if you find something check with your local store to see if they have something similar. Both of these are under 100 bucks.

Although I like My Kohinoor more as it's comfortable makes no noise and the eraser sticks last a long time.

Any thoughts on the rolling ruler?
I just picked up a 6 inch and a 12 inch rolling ruler! I used them when I was younger, and loved them! (really, really handy for stuff like buildings that you need even spacing for details)
I still have an original 4 inch rolling ruler (with metal grip wheels), but the edges are so worn/chewed up/ragged on it, it's useless. My 12 inch (I had two previously) broke in the same exact spots (I guess it's a manufacturing weakness), but the Alvin brand ones seem a lot sturdier now.

It's funny how much Toppi has influenced all the other artists you named. The man is good. What you working on now?

Heh! That sure looks handy! I don't think we have those in here but I'll look out for it. Man there's an incredible amount of trinkets and tools around (such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zeichenmaschine.jpg ) that were designed for graphic aritst in general in some ways seem to be almost obsolete by the digital medium. It's interesting to be in such transition times. Wonder how crafting will be like in 20, 30 years...

Man I remember seeing toppis art for the first time. I think that man totally changed my pov (as an artist). When I read more of his books, i could clearly see how many of my favourite artists have been inspired by him. If you guys never seen any toppi stuff, go out and get yourselves some of his art! :-)
Right now Im working on a project for Moonstonebooks. As far as I know it will be a regular Series. I was told that if it works out nicely,Ill soon get my fingers on something bigger (what ever that means :-) )

Yeah it's great I rate it as one of my most important tools, I wish it was beveled, occassionally I smear ink with it. I can't stand the coin glueing for a make-shift bevel thing, blah, weighs it down and I end up dropping it alot.
I have a gum erasure for most of my erasing so it doesn't leave shavings but the Battery erasure is great for details. It is noisey but I don't use it enough for the noise to get annoying to me. I do get annoyed sharpening my mechanical pencil alot- That's been known to put me in a bad mood if the page is detail heavy. BLAH! ;)
I'll need to check out Toppi - Wasn't he the guy- Blade runner concept artist? I think him and Moebious. I'm a huge Manara guy, hima and Eduardo Risso. They're goooood.
