100 pages in out of 400+. Cool book about a covert organization fighting against greatest terror(ism) ... Zombies.

It's in trade paperback format, so it's about $14.00 or so. Not in front of me at the moment.

Did I say it was a cool book?

It's worth the read. I went through the first 100 pages voraciously but slowed down because of other obligations. Great read, can't wait to see how it ends. Talked with Maberry and there are two books to follow DRAGON FACTORY and KING OF PLAGUES, both featuring Joe Ledger.

I might suggest you read Day by Day Armageddon as well. ;)

I'm going to have to order PATIENT ZERO from Amazon or something, I can't find it locally.

I don't know which bookstore you went to, but I almost didn't find at my local BAMM ... They recently consolidated all the fiction, save for SF/Fantasy together. I thought it would be in the general fiction, you know like the other horror was, no, over in the off-sized sf/fantasy. Was there today, 4 copies left. So they sold half as many as they had when I bought my copy.

Anyway, I'll look into Day by Day armageddon. :)

Excellent! I will check this out! I'm always trying to find good zombie stories. I read City of the Dead, and the other one in the series, and didn't like them so much.

Thanks Ron!! :carrot:

And you like zombies? Will you marry me? lol. I suppose my wife would mind, maybe Ray. ;)

Hope you enjoy the book. It's like 24 meets 28 Days Later.

  Nope, Ray won't mind.

Yep, I luuuuurve zombies! My goal for Ray and I's wedding at SDCC this year is to make my bridesmaids dress as zombies, and throw fake body parts down the aisle instead of flowers.

I read World War Z already as well, but other than that I just don't know what to buy. So anything you can recommend would help a lot!!

I recommend the MONSTER Trilogy by David Wellington: MONSTER ISLAND, MONSTER NATION and MONSTER PLANET.

I'm surprised your local Zombiphile, Jon Dahl, hasn't recommended them yet.

Be sure to take plenty of Zombie photos of your wedding. Make Ray dress up too.

Oh, they don't associate with the hoi polloi? Salina isn't that big is it? Next time I drive through Kansas I'm going to force you all to sit down and eat lunch with me and the family.

Salina has a population of around 50,000 people. Ray and Renae live just down the street from me. I drove there in my '57 Olds the other day. The trip took 45 seconds. :p

We have different hours I guess. Ray is working all night, and I work all day.
When I'm not at work, I'm at home with my kids.

I don't get out much anymore.

From Ray's tweets, I'd say he works 24 hours a day. Sleep is optional. I think he's been fully assimilated.

Take your kids over to play with Nae's son, take a 6-pack and show Ray the future of matrimony and a houseful of kids.

I'm almost done with it. I didn't get to read much yesterday. :(

A few things I have noticed so far in the book:

It starts off slower and more methodical than other zombie books.
It's much more graphic and violent.
The zombies are not near as frightening as the people in the book.

So with your last tidbit, its almost similar to 28 Months Later where it felt like the humans (Army) were more of a threat at times than the infected.

I know the 28 ___ Later franchise isn't zombies but am I right in making the comparision slightly?

I haven't started reading this yet...going to probably this weekend

The 28 series are kind of zombies. Except they're not reanimated dead people, and they're very fast. There brains are kind of zombied out though. :p

I don't want to spoil too much about the story, but the "bad guy" in this book is a scary whacko.

Edit: Oh, and there was a ton of Marvel references in this book. :whistlin:

Really? I guess I haven't read a lot of Marvel stuff in the last couple years, or I wasn't paying attention. But since he's writing for Marvel, I guess it' makes sense he'd throw a bit of that in there.

I just finally finished the book. After the first week end, I've only had time to nickle and dime it. The last 3rd of the book was great. Steady action.
