From an interview w/ Kevin Maguire on Newsarama:

KM: I'm going to do a split book monthly, the first of which is coming out in August. It'll be Giffen, DeMatties, and I doing Metal Men. The other half will be Giffen and Matthew Clark doing Doom Patrol. I think Metal Men is an absolutely perfect fit for us and I'm told it was one of the quickest project approvals DC ever did. Giffen pitched it to DiDio. DiDio, being a Metal Men fan called me. I loved the idea. Paul Levitz liked it. So here we are. Though at the time DiDio called me about it, I was at the dog park picking up my dog's crap, so we'll just have to see if that's some kind of omen.

Keith Giffen on a Doom Patrol/Metal Men split book.

He's just the guy to write that kind of wierd.

I love Kevin Maguire's art, so I'd love to see his take on the Metal Men. This might be a fun comic to read, based on it's creative team.
I read somewhere else that Giffen plans on playing the Doom Patrol up more straightforward than Morrison's take on it, but that probably won't stop me from checking it out.

Cool! I wish they'd do more split books. It would be a great way to showcase characters who may not be able to sell in their own titles, especailly with rising cover prices.

From 20 Questions with Dan Didio today on Newsarama:

Keith Giffen is writing the Doom Patrol side, and he is co-writing Metal Men with J.M. DeMatteis. Matthew Clark is drawing Doom Patrol, and Kevin Maguire is drawing Metal Men. We want to make this as interesting and eclectic a combination of product as possible and Matthew’s grim and beautiful art style is an interesting pairing to Kevin’s lighter and clear style. Between the two, they have two completely different tonal approaches but I think it’s a wonderful pairing, and at he end of the day, it’s just a lot of fun and a great read.

Keith describes his Doom Patrol side as a horror comic, and Metal Men as character comedy – so there are two different approaches that are going on there, and they really blend very nicely under the same title. And just to cut to the next question, Keith will be starting with the Doom Patrol team as last seen in Teen Titans, and working from there.

Anyone know who made up the Doom Patrol team that was in Teen Titans?

Beast Boy, ElastiGirl, the guy with the horn from Teen Titans (Herald?), Bumblebee, that mental guy with the weird hat, Negative Man and Robot Man.
