I posted this here as a sample because I've been thinking about doing Artists Alley. What I would like to know is: How much should I charge? What level of refinement is expected by the commisioner?(This pic 30 min. give or take), etc.
Sorry to sound like a noob but just looking to augment my coffers any way I can. I've never really been a "Big Con" guy. I usually just do Mocca and SPX.
Thanks for any input.

As an artist time, more then anything, is a determining factor in how much you should charge barring your not a known name or highly in demand.
30 minutes for that, 10 dollars. That's 20 dollars an hour. 6 hours per con minus 2 for you time thats 120 dollars a day. If you can do that even quicker even better.
Have some highly finished art there to sell as well (pre made) and charge a bit more.
That's my take on it.
i dunno Dickie
This is tricky bizness. I have a couple of reservations on it because honestly- what i had noticed at the shows this past year-
Was people wanted to buy sketches but couldn't from a lot of artists because of money being tight. These are trying times.
About a year ago i was selling my sketches @ cons for 20 bucks a pop. I gradually went up as my "status" did to about 40.
@ Wondercon another creator told me i was short changing myself. We talked about it some...
His point was to break it down sorta like LGM just did- in an hourly wage manner. But i think i disagree...To be honest- Drawing sketches at cons sucks. I love to do it- but the conditions aren't always the best.
Lighting sucks. Distractions. Chatting...
I charge 50 per character. I think it's fair (for me) i spend about an hour or so on per sketch but it depends on the character...Some characters take extra time. I would like people to be able to afford original artwork by me. I saw some ridiculaz amounts of money exchanged for some not stellar stuff.
I think you just have be fair and honest with it and the people will know you are fair and honest and they will come. Stop looking at it maybe like "how much i can get for it" rather than looking at it like- "how many people can i get to have my artwork on their walls".
Good luck.

I can get behind that. I didn't mean to imply I was looking to get rich, I just wanted a sense of how it works. Thanks for the imput boys.
