Those cool looking green boxes

So I've been comming here for several years, mostly lurking I'll admit, and I've got just one question...What is the precise meaning of those green (or black, or red) boxes under all our names? And what in the world are reputation points?
I guess that's actually two questions, though.

I like Jamal. I think of him as the voice of reason. In fact, I remember a few years ago he posted over at scryptic studios looking for a minotaur story...but I never responded because he wasn't offering $150 per page. :nyah:

Only to my Son and only when he's learning. Ha I just taught him how to write four letters. I combined similar letters to show him how to draw. I taught him T and from there F and Then E and slipped in an H. He's actually trying to read. Anyone with kids a age 2 and above get the leap frog Video Series. The Alpahabet Factory and so on. They really helped us teach the boy how to sound out letters and it's showing fruits as he'll spell out a word and then sound out the letters and then try to use the sounds to form the word. So much fun to watch.
