Thinking about reading The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I tried a few years ago with the first installment, Interview with a Vampire, but I couldnt really get into it (I'm thinking the personal stuff going on in my life was the cause).

So what does anybody who's read these books think of them.

Or should I just try to read the Dark Tower series?

Rice's books are Harlequin romance for people who wear black fingernail polish. Dark Tower is worlds better (and I'm not particularly a King fan).

Yeah personally I'm nervous about picking up any books by King. I love his ideas and loved Salem's Lot, Carrie, and some of his other oldies...until the last 30 pages. He can not write endings to save his life and after reading Cell, it makes me want to read every possible review before actually picking up one of his books.

So can you tell me if the Dark Tower series drags any?

It's been a while, but I vaguely remember being more entertained by it than by most of his self-contained books. Couldn't say about the endings.

Ah ok --- So one more question before I go out sometime and pick it up. Is this series basically about a gunslinger walking around in a post-apocalyptic world?

That's the nut of it. There's some interaction with 'our' world as well.

Hey thanks for the information -- if there is anything else you could let me in on for the dark tower series please let me know.

I did hear it does connect to The Stand and some of Kings other work
