I never understood the big deal about The Dark Knight Returns. At the time it was released it was groundbreaking and original, but story wise, even art wise, it isn't what I would call a top notch book in the way Watchmen is. I remember hating the mutants when I first read it.

I'd add

SANDMAN
The Invisibles
Mouse Guard
Pride of Baghdad
and of course the greatest GN series ever made: Preacher.

(Invincible??)

Must-have?

I'd put very few books in that category. Things notable for breaking new ground, setting new precedents; Watchmen, DKR, Maus, etc. Other than that, it's all just a matter of personal taste, and it's a lost cause trying to decide whether such and such a book belongs on the list. At least in going by historical significance you have an objective guideline for this sort of thing. Not everyone may like, say, DKR, but no one can deny its long-term impact. It's hard to make the same case for something like Walking Dead, We3, Ultimate Spider-man, or whatever.

Saga of Swamp Thing by Alan M. Absolutely GREAT read!!!!

Other than that I have nothing new to add to the list. Sandman, Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, and oh yeah Kraven's Last Hunt is perfect.

Good luck finding the first few.

Even more reason to add them to this list.
