Ok, got a face, got it almost done coloring. The effect I want is this guy is standing in front of a fire. So, how would I go about doing the coloring? A gradient overlay on the colors with a low opacity? Tips , suggestions and advice needed :)

A strong, close light source (such as a fire) will push the contrast way up, so you'll basically have only highlights and deep shadow, with small transitional areas; the subtle tonality of ordinary lighting is inappropriate. And of course a wood or similar fire produces very warm-toned light, so be sure to use similarly warm tones for the highlights; shadow could be black or the complement of the highlight tone.
