I've been trying to compile a bunch of books that sort of deal with the aspect of superhumans/superheroes/villains, etc.

Anyone care to help out?

Just to start, I'll throw out Watchers by Dean Koontz. A genetically engineered super-smart dog? Yeah, that counts.

Your turn.

Wow, that's pretty broad. I mean, how do you qualify 'super'? Once you step away from the powers'n'spandex group, you have an insane number of literary characters who could qualify, starting with Gilgamesh and ending with half the leads in contemporary thrillers. Hell, you could probably justify calling Sherlock Holmes a superhero.

Don't a few Stephen King novels cover that? Like "The Tommyknockers", and I think in the original "The Shining", doesn't somebody have some sort of ESP type powers?

The Tommyknockers is about alien induced inventions, but The Shining which is about a really annoying psychic kid as well as alcohollism, and Firestarter are about superhumans. So's the Green Mile.

Asimov's Young Mutants,
If you're open to magical kinds of stuff, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, and Charles De Lint are good choices for, not necessarily super heroes, but superhuman abilities set in modern times.

Also, when I write my autobiography, you can use that in your list as well :whistlin:

I've written two stories and outlined a third that have skirted the superhero genre ... someday they may get published. If they do the working titles are "Requiem", "Lucky Me" and "Terminal" ...

They need a lot of work though ... cause I suck. :(

Booth Koontz and King have visited the genre. Koontz generally uses them as the antagonist pitting them against more human protagonist.

Recently a book written from the villains viewpoint called "Soon I Will Be Invincible" was released to fairly good reviews. It's written by Austin Grossman.

The FALLEN series by Tom Sneigoski deals with superhumans in a biblical sense.
