I couldnt find the tech page that was here but...
I finally got my PC up and running but there is no sound.
I installed the drivers from the CD, I redid it, I checked connections and different files.
I cannot figure out how to get sound.
It's an internal sound btw.
Any help is much appreciated.
thanks

control pannel -> sound options-> un mute it but make sure that you go into advanced options and un mute them too

is it amd? Looking for a new mobo and I read a lot of reviews saying the on board sound sucks.

It is an AMD.
There were no errors that came up during installation of software and drivers.
It is unmuted....
Onboard sound is real tek 97.
I cant figure it out :(

Do you hear static coming from the speakers when you plug them in?

Hit it with a hammer.
That won't fix the problem, but it will make it less annoying compaired to having your computer smashed.

reading through the reviews many had to get a different sound card :( they got them at wal mart. More then likely it is a driver error with the board..this doesn't bode well for me!

If you hear static, try a different set of speakers.

What board are you using? Apparently there are driver issues with a lot of these and the updates are out there.
others with the prob:

it appears to be newer boards.
something that may help

I'm about to suggest the dreaded "check the bios" suggestion. My mobo actually does have onboard sound, but I did get a Soundblaster card with this comp. I went through the bios (for something else) and saw that there was an option to activate the onboard sound. I tried this when my sound card fried and I was waiting for the replacement. It didn't actually work, BUT, that might be because I still had the active soundblaster drivers working. If the onboard sound is your only option, and your only active sound drivers are for the onboard sound, this may be your issue.

Trouble shooting so far:
Checking Bios settings
Updating driver
Unintalling drivers
reinstalling drivers
Downloading "fixes"
Specs:
MSI K9N4 SLI-F Socket AM2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Socket AM2 CPU

It could be a hardware issue. Did you try another set of speakers?

msi is a good board but the amd config is flawed.
If your running vista, apparently the vista 64 has a bunch of driver issues so try 32 bit vista. If it were a hardware prob and it's on board sound then you'd have more then just sound as a problem on a new board.

You know, I remember the days when this was a real solution to electronic issues. Your tv doesn't work right? Just slam on the thing... and what's funny is that would actually work half the time. Nowadays they make everything puny and plastic and not able to be repaired with physical violence... I don't like it.
Good suggestions all around, but in the long run, worst case scenario, go grab a SoundBlaster Audigy SE card. They only cost $30 typically, and tend to last virtually forever. I wish I'd kept my old one since my new ATI video card apparently has some cases of being incompatible with nVidia-chipset motherboards' onboard sound drivers.

The card would be the simple easy solution. I suggest it.
You know, they still recommend that if your hard drive fizzes to hit it a couple times. If your going to do this I suggest you search up the proper manner in which to.

Fixed it!!
I went into the registry and found duplicate files, I guess these were conflicting with it. I removed the dupes and DING went the sound. WOOT.
Thanks for all your suggestions. :D

Were they dupe driver files? Or installation files.

That'll do it.

Thanks, I mean, for making this thread. I lost sound 4 or 5 times with my old computer, and each time I made the decision to just restrore the whole thing.
Now I know what to do if it ever happens again.
