If I could draw like Skottichan I'd draw a girl in just a red shift.
with a sword.
a ridiculously long Sephiroth lookin' sword.
Who remembers the Garbage Pail Kids when they first came out?
This is "Red Utensil", he can wield his utensils at any food substance and devour it with his vacuum mouth.

I think this character is TOO remote. I never even heard of him, and I'm a walking Marvel Who's Who.

who ever in god's name suggests these characters?
he hasn't even appeared in more than 10 issues.
he's a dust in the wind, give us major papas!

Hey, you know what? If you want to make a suggestion, it can be done in private. It's not really mandatory to post on if you think what Fejj picks is a good idea or not. You either participate or you don't.
These threads are about creativity and being so fucking negative is in no way conducive to that.

I’m up for this one. a little known character from the past is s much an opportunity as a well known one. . thanks to the futureinterweb I already know all I need to know about him.

Ok I'd like to conduct a quick survey. Are you all interested in more main stream popular characters or lesser know characters? I have tried to pick obscure characters as I think they're more fun and you have more leeway to experiment. Several of you have pm'd me great ideas, they are all on my list. I'd like to make this fun for everybody. Let me know what you'd like to have here. The participation has been great and I'd like everybody to keep participating!
Thanks.
I'd say middle-rank characters are best- leave out Batman and Wolverine, but use characters we've at least heard of. Of course, I'm not nearly as well versed as some in comics lore; I didn't know who Omega Red was until you started that draw-off.
The DarkMind
12-04-2007, 09:42 PM
i think a mainstream pop character is good every now and then, the omega red went over good (even though i didnt think it would) so that works, but i would like to see more lame-ass characters that are in need of a reimagining as opposed to just characters we've never heard of. quick, someone go back through their old wizard mags and start making a list of the mort-of-the-months. that should keep us busy for a while :w00t:

Hey lord Fejj,
Not saying that you need this but do you have the marvel encyclopedia?
Pretty much from A to Z they have every character supposedly in the marvel universe and they do have many character's that need a re imagining.Like I said, your doing fine just thought I'd mention it.

I had no idea what I was going to draw when I started, no idea where I was going when I was drawing it and couldn’t tell when I had finished.
For something I let grow on the page it didn’t turn out too badly. I wanted him to look like a sort of evil silver surfer, or a darker silver surfer, as basically that’s all red shift really is.

So long as it looks a bit stupid or seriously dated and could do with a once over I think it’s all good. (even the spider buggy) maybe one in a blur moon you should chuck in a character that already looks pretty damn good, just to see what people do with it.

I just really like drawing...things...and this guy's no different. I kinda envisioned him as one of the more bad-ass heralds of Galactus no one really hears about for a reason...you never see him coming and when he does show up, well, it's already too damn late for you, anyway.
He's got this weird textured skin that "shifts" into whatever weapon or shape he wants, and it's always moving and is just wild as all hell.
Damn, now I wish I'da kept him for myself!!
Sorry about the smallness of the post, but my scanner's being a bitch and I just don't have time to argue, so it'll hafta do inna pinch. Maybe tomorrow I can go a little bigger.
Or, is that what SHE said?? Guffaw, guffaw...
Oh, and I like the obscure character approach. Shit, I don't really..I like re-imagings!! They're KEWL!!

maybe altenate them on a weekly basis - one week well-known, the next obscure, but not too obscure. this week's Red Shift is too far outfield for me; i don't feel anything for him and can't get any inspiration at all. i'm sitting out.

Personally, for me I thinks it's more about getting the imagination juices flowin, the more obscure character the more you have to push yourself. Maybe you have to do some research, maybe you have to strain the brain for an idea but thats what makes it fun. For me anyways.

I vote for both.
Main Stream is gonna be a real challenge
because they've already re-invented those characters so many times,
and with the obscure there's the opportunity to be creative and go hog wild! :w00t:
so maybe a little more on the obscure,
but both have merit.

The draw-offs will now be in the .... wait for it .... Digital Draw-Off Area and the mods will be working to keep the draw-offs going. This way the DD area gets traffic and the draw-off threads don't get buried in the Artist Showcase.
The usual suspects will be tasked to keep the mods on their toes to make sure the threads and polls go up as they should.

Thank you DarkMind. :)
I assume Re-Imagines and Plain Draw-Offs
have Rules / Deadlines determined by the moderator?
Can anyone in the Digital webbing Forums
Vote or is it limited to those that participated?
Everything you need to know about each draw-off, including deadlines, should be in the initial post. In all cases, only new artwork created specifically for the draw-off is eligible. If you stray too far from the topic, your entry may not be included in the poll; this is at the discretion of the moderator.
The character re-imagines, Blitz draw-offs, and JLA Elseworlds draw-offs are all open to all DW members; a new version of each one is begun each week. The Draw-off Tournament threads you see in this forum are now closed to new entries.
