Since my Pandora account broke and I can't find anything similar, I've gradually taken to not listening to music as much anymore.
I think the last album I bought was Paramore and the last song I liked was something called potential break up song because it has a nice guitar riff.

So I go to flick through some music channels, it seems every rapper on them can only talk about themselves being gangsta while covered in chains, shades and women in their underwear.
Every rock act it seems has to be wearing suits, have shades of grey in the video and a ghostly apparition every few seconds and everything else inbetween has nonsensical lyrics and too many expensive effects in the video.
What happened to the days when rappers have turntables backing them and rock bands had leather and awesome beards?

So someone shows me some new music and I didn't even know Serj Tankian had gone solo or that metal like As I lay dying and Job for a cowboy still existed.

I'm gradually becoming old and not seeking out music like I used to, reccomend me something so I may reclaim my youth a little.

"I'm a 22 year old artist/writer/inker/letterer working on the first book being released from the studio."

So old...

My former sociology professor used music to teach class. His stuff has been burned into my skull for years.

wisper: That site is pretty cool and one of the more indy friendly ones I've seen. Does it showcase any signed musicians?

Scott: No, just no. :p

KD: That is some of the most unique stuff I've heard in a while, I get the impression it's inspired some of the themes in your writing. :D

Multi: I'm older than most everyone I know, I like that guys style, whether it actually educates anyone though is another matter.

Gothic Archies are really cool.
So our the Magnetic Fields.
Alkaline Trio rocks.
If you like Paramore, you might like The Hush Sound.
Listen to "Lotion" by The Greenskeepers if you like Silence of the Lambs.
Eagles of Death Metal are fun to listen to.
Dramarama is classic.
Smoking Popes.
I'll list my whole collection if I go on.
Listen to this stuff, and if you like it, we'll find some more cool stuff.
Oh, and if you have Myspace account,t hen you can look up most bands on there.
I don't think you really need an account to check out bands, though.
Good luck finding some cool music.

Since my Pandora account broke and I can't find anything similar,
Try Last.FM (http://www.last.fm). It's not as great as Pandora, but it's the next best thing you can get.

Arcade Fire: Funeral, Neon Bible
DJ Shadow: Preemptive Strike, The Private Press
Mos Def: The New Danger, Tru3 Magic
I was also surprised lately at how good the Blue Man Group's 'Complex Rock' tour was. You can find the whole show on Google Video.

P.S. Thanks for recommending fonejacker, that show is hilarious.

*cringe* Arcade Fire *cringe*

Lonero and Estrum are my two favourite up and coming bands. Both have the talent to go far, though Lonero likely will never get mainstream coverage. They have no lyrics to the stuff, it's just all really good instrumentals.

Sonic Youth is freaking awesome. For some reason I always forget that until I happen to hear one of their tracks again. Go get some Youth!

Scott: No, just no. :p
If you can't bounce with Kanye then you have got no soul.

But if you are interested in bands that are 'cool' then you could do far worse than Reading indie rockers My Luminaries, my old flatmate's band Los Diablos or my cousin's band, Reason II Believe.

I have recently had Hot Chip on repeat on my mp3 player. They have some catchy little ditties.

I don't so much hate him, least not as much as every other rapper these days, it's just when he's not using samples his songs have so much expensive gloss it becomes distracting.
That said, I find it hard to remember many rap act's I've liked these past few years, I think the last I really enjoyed was Fort Minor who I thought were well underrated.

Dragonforce are too good for their own good, sure the guitar work is amazing but when you have blistering solo's in the verse, chorus and bridge in every song it gets old quick.
You can't have too much of a good thing, guitar solo's should only be used sparingly or they lose their impact.

I disagree, the hair bands of the 80s used solos sparingly, does that make them better? It all depends on your tastes, and they use solos like other people use lyrics, it's just a part of their music, if you get sick of it, you can always listen to a different band. I'd rather listen to solos than the roars of virtually all other metal bands out there now.
