View Full Version : Name The Artist

JJ McKool
09-04-2007, 09:39 PM
Everytime I've been on here in the last couple days I've seen the one thread at the top, so why not have an actual thread game of "Name The Artist"? The rules are as follows,

1. One picture for the artist, can be anyone either well-known, or residing on these boards.
2. If artist of the picture is present, they are not allowed to respond until the next round.
3. Picture must be from a separate artist if poster is an artist.
4. No hints, unless a period of 8 hours has passed from the last guess.
5. If you guess right, you have to post the next pic.
*Just added: 6. As many guesses as you want, but only one per post.

I'll start it off with a favourite of mine, lets see who can guess the artist.

Bermejo is the spelling, and yup, that's his. So I guess that means Justice is up?

In case you were wondering, Bradstreet usually inks Bermejo's stuff.

He's a World Fantasy and (twice) Eisner award-winning artist who's been in the industry for three decades, working on books ranging from The Swamp Thing to The Web of Spider-Man to The Sandman to Stardust. I hardly think he's obscure.

Definition of obscure. Notice how it doesn't mention "Marvel or DC" anywhere. :har:
1 a : DARK, DIM b : shrouded in or hidden by darkness c : not clearly seen or easily distinguished : FAINT <obscure markings>
2 : not readily understood or clearly expressed; also : MYSTERIOUS
3 : relatively unknown: as a : REMOTE, SECLUDED <an obscure village> b : not prominent or famous <an obscure poet>
4 : constituting the unstressed vowel \&\ or having unstressed \&\ as its value

Actually Scott, you did cheat, you're supposed to wait every second turn to guess, so just for that, you can't guess for two rounds.

Great Scott
09-13-2007, 02:03 AM
Two things:
1) Getting all anal about this stuff ruins any fun to be had in it.
2) Your rules say nothing about every second turn
"Name The Artist"? The rules are as follows,

1. One picture for the artist, can be anyone either well-known, or residing on these boards.
2. If artist of the picture is present, they are not allowed to respond until the next round.
3. Picture must be from a separate artist if poster is an artist.
4. No hints, unless a period of 8 hours has passed from the last guess.
5. If you guess right, you have to post the next pic.
*Just added: 6. As many guesses as you want, but only one per post.

JJ McKool
09-13-2007, 02:46 AM
I know, it was something I had to add after I couldn't edit those rules, but if you would have run through the other posts:

TEH PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! You're allowed to post once every five posts after your first post per round. New round=clean slate.

Screw it, this five post thing is stupid, you can post every second post. Not enough people doin this for the five post rule to be cool.

This guy is a Member here. I think his name is Braze or Brase. Andy Braz(s)e.
I was going to try to find Jim Lee's first work and see if anyone could guess but seeing as how mac went back.......
Yup. He's a member over on conceptart.org, that's where I saw his stuff first. Didn't know he was a member here though, small world.

I don't have a problem following rules, but I sure as hell ain't going to sift through several pages to make sure I didn't miss any that weren't posted at the beginning.

Hmmm, seems like this thread has come to an end. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

For those of you who enjoy the guessing game, feel free to drop by my blog (http://www.ferretpress.com/weblog) every Monday morning when I post a page of artwork from the early career of some big name artists, and everyone can try to guess the artist.

There's also over a 110 pages in the archives (http://www.ferretpress.com/weblog/labels/guess%20the%20artist.htm)

Well aside from Aragones and Quesada the other artist is a mystery to me.

I'd say the other is Mike Norton. It like a bit like his work on Badger and The Waiting Place.

That one face does look like the Badger without his mask.

Norton and Quesada are correct, but that's not Aragones...

Believe it or not, it's actually Paul Chadwick. It's from a pin-up book Dark Horse printed earlier this year to celebrate their 20th anniversary. In it, popular artists do illustrations of other artists' famous characters.

Oh frick, that's like some kind of cheating isn't it? Damn, nice choice.
